The next day, the boys return to the apartment to check if the robber had been caught or not when they meet Takagi and Megure, which makes them wonder if the two are also responsible for this case. The two state that there was a murder that happened 1 week ago and suspect Hazama to be the murder as for the following reason:
 +
*There was a nylon string that could’ve been used to kill Tarao found near the scene, and the fingerprint test matched with the one collected from Hazama yesterday. He states that the nylon string might be his but it was when he opened the food package he received from his grandma 10 days ago.
 +
*Tarao graduated at the same place as Hazama one year earlier and began to blackmail others, with Hazama might have been one of his victims, according to Takagi. But Hazami states that he has never met with him at all.
 +
*Even if the camera recorded him at the Dorubako Tengoku, it could’ve been his twin brother who was there as a way to help Hazama cover his crime, but the two brothers haven’t met for a few years.
 +
So he is taken to the police for interrogation, which upsets Imaizumi and the boys since for them, he is too friendly to be the murder.

Later, the boys begin suspecting of the coincidences surrounding the incident and think that Kudokara could've been involved in these, so they begin asking others about him but find out that he is not related to the case after he answers the call from police. After that, Conan goes to the MPD to ask Takagi about the situation, to which he replies that there is no one in Beika that used to be Taro’s victim; and there is no one with the intention to frame Hazama as well, which means that he just happens to be the suspect. Then, after asking Imaizumi again about the day he went out, Conan notices a twist in the case, so he tells others to investigate again based on that. And in the afternoon, after the police release Hazama because there is no effective evidence, the boys begin to reveal the truth behind.

<spoiler>The culprit of the murder is '''Teruyo Imaizumi'''. For her, Tarao was the one to cause her misery due to the accidental loss:
 +
*Her niece had been blackmailed by Tarao and was probably feeling empty when she was hit by a car.
 +
*Tarao laughed at her when questioned about the first incident, her husband was disappointed because there was no effective proof against him, and went out drinking, leading to another accidental death.

Before being taken away, Imaizumi apologizes for causing him multiple badlucks even though she has tried to do the opposite, to which he replies that she should turn herself in to the police so she might get a chance to rebuild her life after finishing her sentence. Later, his twin brother Daikichi appears and wonders why he is here, much to Shokichi's shock as his appearance has changed drastically since their last meeting.
