In this case... YES! That is exactly what this poll is for! That would make them the greater criminal, because they commit worse and more crimes without getting caught. Again, NOT favoritism, but GREATEST criminal. Kid is not the greatest criminal, he is just the favorite of a lot of people. Gin and Anokata are CLEARLY the greatest criminals in DC. All the people who are voting for kid are voting for him because he is their favorite, not because they think he is actually the greatest criminal.
-
Er... you don't have to be the best criminal to be someone's favorite. I like Arsene Lupin more than Professor Moriarty, but I would NEVER say that Arsene Lupin is greater than Moriarty (put simply Lupin's stories are enormously fun, just like Kid's). It just doesn't make sense. It is all about thinking objectively. If you asked 100 people whom have never read Conan "Who is worse...the leader of a multinational crime syndicate that is involved in murder and assassinations, extortion and cyber crimes, or a gentleman thief who usually steals for good reason (returning the gem to original owner or to find his father's murderer), and always returns everything?" What do you think they would say? BEING COMPLETELY UNBIASED
-
Don't mix favorite and greatest up. If this was a vote for "favorite" criminal, I'd fully expect Kid to have the majority of the votes. However this is the GREATEST criminal, so YES the problem IS that people prefer Kid in that situation. The greatest criminal means the one who is... you know the greatest criminal, not the criminal whom you like more. Because the BO has, in all likely hood, stolen millions (hell we know they stole 6 million as is) and extorted hundreds of millions if not billions to facilitate their OTHER criminal activities, means that they are the greatest. Which to me means Anokata. Though Gin is the favorite because we have actually seen him. Your argument is based now, not on greatness but favoritism, which is NOT the issue here. Kid is not the greatest criminals, he just has many fans like you who reason him into being the greatest because he is a cool thief. (BTW, what I am saying is that people like you and Kid fans lack objectiveness, which is a problem in a vote for the greatest, you look at the facts not whom you like more)
-
I think you missed the part about the BO being involved in ROBBERY. They commit the same crimes as Kid, just not as flashy and with more violence (usually). Not only that, but that is not their only way of stealing money, because they EXTORT money and services from people. Kid steals gems, and that is it, he doesn't perform armed robberies, performs grand larceny. However... the BO has also shown that they perform grand larceny. You are comparing a magician who is stealing to find his father's murderers to CAREER criminals. Career criminals who have never been caught. Again, Kid should not have votes when compared to the likes of Anokata and Gin. He is a criminal, but when it comes down to it, the BO performs the same crimes as he does, and a wider array of other crimes with a higher degree of frequency (again, they are career criminals, some committing white collar crimes, others committing more severe felonies while Anokata orchestrates). Not to mention that we only see a fraction of the crimes committed, by both sides. So we can assume that if the BO commits x number of crimes that Conan knows about, then that number of crimes is exponentially higher due to their active nature. They probably constantly extort money and services from people as organized crime syndicates are known to do. Where as Kid only steals a certain amount of time to find a particular gem, or to entertain an old eccentric man (and is more severely limited by school and a certain girl). The BO is constantly committing crimes, whether it be in the view of us or not. And neither have been caught. Based on the wide array and severity of crimes, the BO are far worse. Kid steals; the BO steals, extorts, murders, assassinates, and commits cyber crimes. They are incompatible. As many crimes as we know they have committed they have certainly done more. There is a reason why Gosho made the BO the antagonist of the story and Kid the hero of his original story.

So you are saying that a thief whom returns everything is greater than a mass murderer who is associated with extortion schemes and cyber crimes, or the head of a criminal orginization that is known to be involved in armed robbery, extortion, cyber crimes and murder (including federal and local LEOs) (as far as we know)? All while leaving no evidence leading back to them? Especially since Kaitou Kid should have been caught long ago if you look at the situations in both manga. It wouldn't be a leap of faith to connect Kaitou Kuroba to anything, hell Nakamori should have known something was up when he changed into his daughter. There is no way that a thief from that long ago would be able to know his daughter unless he was close to them in some way... Magic+close to investigator's family = one person. He was convinced otherwise through a frankly shoddy scheme. A better scheme would be to you know... put police surveillance on him. Kuroba is never around when Kid is, and visa versa.

Very nice. The proportionality looks a bit off though (To be specific, the right hand seems bigger than the one on the left and also shorter, despite that hand being in a position approximately the same to the viewer, and the right leg looks bigger than the left, same reason for proportionality issue. Though the one on the right would have been possible if the foot was positioned differently and were viewing it from the side and not from the apparent front.) You did a fantastic job on the hair and clothes though.

Question about FUNimation "Case Closed" movies
Kyuu Nye replied to Jigsaw's topic in Movies and OAVs
I agree with CC here... There is nothing wrong with watching it twice. And if you have an upscaling DVD player, you can watch it at a similar resolution as the DCTP HD release. -
I'd just like to reiterate that Anokata = Professor Moriarty. Controlling everything from the shadow and has a wide spread organization, which clearly has significant influence. He is the greatest criminal that we know nothing about. Gin would probably be the greatest known criminal. (Gin is like Colonel Moran) Kaitou Kid is merely a thief, and one that is only as good as he is due to the fact that his character was basically copied from a superior thief created by Maurice LeBlanc. He shouldn't even be on the list. Just because he can't be caught does not make him the greatest criminal. And lets be honest here, the only reason he can't be caught is because Gosho writes it so that Shinichi's ego prevents him from going to stop kid with back-up. Almost every single time Shinichi goes to confront Kid, 3-4 extra people with a fan or ventilation system would have been able to seal off his exits. Gosho doesn't want either of his principle characters to lose, it is as simple as that. Basically he does not deserve to even have one vote, and all you Kaitou Kid fangirls need to take off those blinders, and please PLEASE go read Maurice LeBlanc's Arsene Lupin stories. If you like Kid, then you'll like the character that he was based off of even more. If anyone wants to make the argument that the Shadowman is, in fact, a criminal and not just a way to keep us from seeing the true criminal... *sigh* fine... Then he would probably be the best criminal... Hard to compete with one man who has killed hundreds, framed hundreds, and convinced those framed that they actually did it. So! Basically... Those of you who think Kid is the greatest criminal, please... stop... He is not nor will he ever be the greatest criminal. Greatest unknown: Anokata Greatest known: Gin Greatest while being somewhat of a joke: Shadowman I will surmise that if more is learned about Vodka and Bourbon they can make a run for the greatest so long as Anokata remains anonymous. Vermouth is possible, but I think she wants to reform, hence why she is actively protecting their "silver bullet." She already repaid both of them several times for saving her that once. I think in saving her that once, they changed her way of thinking and thus started changing her ways, wanting to break off from the BO, but unable to unless it is brought down.Though it is likely that before that she could have easily surpassed Gin as the greatest criminal, which is how she became the favorite. Kid should have 0 votes. End of story.

You make me sad A hobbit is a halfling from Middle Earth, and the principle characters of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series. That was a joke based on a character named Gollum (aka Smeagol)

I don't know anything about your math class, but pre-calculus is junk, and I'll stick to that. It's not a bad class, but I found it totally useless. Again, it's been several years since I took it and never used it once. I sold my textbook and I don't miss it. I have used my calculus text several times for reference though. pre-calculus it's junk.I don't even remember what I learned there, nor do I think I have used any of it since completing the class. Calculus 1-3 on the other hand... Very useful (to me at least). I'll go out on a limb and say I don't actually hate any subject, just professors. Every class I have ever disliked was due to the professor, not the class itself. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

Already did that . If I was up to rewatching them I'm sure my original post would triple in length. However, the reason why Gosho would never make any movie canon is because they screw up his already defined characters. They are basically fan fiction, they make his characters look better than they actually are to please the fans. It is great for sales, but not from a story standpoint. Having characters that are too perfect makes for a boring story because there can be no conflict. Ever notice how the situations in the movies are 100 times worse than in the manga? It isn't because it is a movie, and movies are supposed to be that way. It is called "bad writing." When you can't write in actual tension and conflict to arise to a believable climax, you create one, which is what the movie writers do every movie. It is why I would never rate any DC movie above a 6/7 on a scale of 1-10. And a 7 is really pushing it, and only one or two movies would be 6/10. Most of the movies would fall into the 1-5/10. (but that doesn't mean that they are unenjoyable, but comparing them to almost any other movie I have seen in the mystery genre kills them, just watch a movie like the Maltese Falcon to see what I mean) Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

No... No movies are canon, ever, which is the point of this thread. However, Shiratori was an original character for M1, and was later integrated into manga canon by Gosho.
-
Right, but in M2 you needed to be an expert marksman to make that shot, which Shinichi is not. It takes a lot of practice to be able to make that kind of shot and only graze the target. They made it believable for Kogorou, but not Shinichi, even in manga canon where it is shown that he knows how to fire a gun. Marksmanship and knowing how to fire are totally different.
-
None... Movie 1 and 2 would probably hurt the overall manga canon the least, and Gosho did integrate Shiratori into the manga canon from M1 (so that would probably be the best choice). However, almost every movie makes Conan/Shinichi too perfect (the running gag of "I learned it in Hawaii"). I can believe Shinichi knowing how to fire a gun, but not with the level of accuracy in M2. M3 would have had Conan die due to the bullet proof glass glasses (impossible) and Kid finding out his identity. Same with M4 and boating, with the inclusion of the possibility of another kink in Shinichi's story due to that ShinRan scene towards the end. She can be dumb, but surely she would have realized that Conan was out of earshot of her mother's story and thus that scene wouldn't have worked. M5, though my favorite movie plays the BO is a less than ideal manner for the manga canon. Gin is not so careless as to take aim unless he is 100% certain of his target and was sure he could make it a perfect crime, and shooting Sonoko would be bad... Killing the daughter of a major corporation does not work. M6 was just... so very unlike DC... Having that included would be horrid to manga canon. M7 adds to the HeiKazu story that doesn't entirely work, and same with ShinRan for that matter. In terms of abilities Shinichi was downplayed in lieu of Heiji, so that isn't an issue so much as the relationships. M8 is worse than M3 for Kid, cementing the fact that Kid knows Conan's identity, and it also puts him OOC, because not only would he NOT disguise as someone whom he couldn't mimic 100%, but he wouldn't put himself next to someone who could see through it in an instant (same issue with M14 in terms of Ran/Shinichi/Kid interaction). M9 has its issues with the Kogorou/Eri story. It would be nice having Kogorou successful, but not at the cost of the destruction to manga. There is probably more but I can barely remember any specifics. M10, no...just... no. Don't know why it is popular, but it doesn't work on multiple levels, including the scheme to make all of those detectives in on the overall scheme. M11... another... just...no. That was the anime teams idea of writing Conan as Indiana Jones, with Ran and Sonoko being pirates for...some...reason... M12 is another where parts would work, but overall it messes with character ability and tries to make them too perfect. Conan is confirmed to have perfect pitch, but he cannot hold a note. So that movie doesn't work there. I'm sure there is more again, but haven't seen the movie in a while to determine with any certainty. M13... sure Irish is awesome, he would make a great BO member, but he seems too much like Bourbon at this point (ironic that they are both whiskeys). It also had severe issues with BO being OOC. Destroying major property in a big way that would illicit military intervention? Ha that is a good one. M14 is just horrible on several levels. I don't want to get into it. M15 has more inclusion of things that wouldn't fully work within manga canon including Shinichi's abilities, and some inherent physics conundrums that the movies have been so very known for.

Your parents' reactions when they see you reading mangas

Hm... try convincing him to be Jackie Chun from DB (who was really Master Roshi) -
Any of the episodes that were supposed to be BO from the first 50 were awful because the anime didn't predict the popularity, so they just wrote out the plot cases entirely, and made frankly substandard AO episodes. Though they did turn that one around and make a fantastic AO episode with 128 to fix the hole they made.

The Official My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Thread
Kyuu Nye replied to CarpetCrawler's topic in Music, Movies & TV
FINALLY! A new song! <3 (an awesome song at that) Ok so new episode awesome, new song awesome. In fact, I dare say my favorite song. Winter wrap up and art of the dress are amazing, but that song just has a certain Broadway-esque feel to it that works remarkably well. -
Don't misunderstand, I didn't take offense nor did I take it personally. Hell, I barely categorize myself as a DC fan at all anymore, because I can't even rank it on my top 20 any more. I'm just saying that not everyone chooses to watch all of DC, if AT ALL. That choice doesn't make them any less of a fan of DC as anyone else. Where there is more than one medium, or over 600 episodes, with a good percentage of those episodes being filler, not watching everything is understandable. Whether the person chooses to avoid AOs because they are not Gosho's original work or because they got tired of the tripe that the anime team puts out is their choice, and should not be degraded as a fan because of it. Allow me to put it to you this way... A fan of Harry Potter can easily elect to NOT LIKE the movie adaptations, and be no less of a fan of the franchise. Just because one prefers the original work of the author does not mean they are not a true fan. If I wanted to make the argument, I could easily say that a true DC fan ONLY reads the manga, because it is the pure medium as created by Gosho Aoyama and his team as THEY intended it and not as interpreted by anyone else.
-
Please define "true DC fan" because if watching all episodes of the anime is the criteria, then I am not, due to not watching the anime at all and reading only the manga. There are a lot of fans like me too, including Chekhov if I'm not mistaken. Some fans like to stick to only Gosho's original work. That does not make them any less of a fan than anyone else. That said, I don't remember the number, but I remember watching some AO because everyone was raving how bad it was and I got curious. It was in the 500s. It wasn't bad funny like I had hoped, it was just bad Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

Your parents' reactions when they see you reading mangas
Kyuu Nye replied to phantomlady1101's topic in Chatroom
My mother questions whether or not I can understand it. I've always been into comics, so she rarely even realizes that manga is Japanese. And she doesn't mind because I'm keeping up with my studies and she herself is a Disney addict. Not to mention that I'm always reading something. Whether it is a book, something for school or a science journal. Someone earlier said something about reading at your level... My mother doesn't even dare say that because she knows that the journals I read are beyond her realm of comprehension, so I think she knows what my response would be Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk -
It's best not to think about it, unless you plan to visit Japan during Golden Week... The movie will be subbed around the same time as it was this year. Either that or forget about it until the summer... won't feel as long then .

Oh... I see... I'm not sure if Amazon Japan ships to the US, but that isn't in USD >_>;; Because those are really the only two places that I can even think of that you don't have to go to the physical location... I am pretty sure Book-off might be able to do it, but they don't have an online site... Basically you have to find an international Japanese book distributor that deals in the US... the only two that I know of are Amazon and Kinokuniya. Are you sure you searched Amazon.co.jp correctly? Use google translate (or type it in manually if you can) in Japanese. I really can't imagine Amazon.co.jp NOT having the manga for DC and MK (ok, maybe MK, but it should DEFINITELY have DC)

Which is why the school can expect a class action law suit from the parents. This is going to cause more problems for the school than the students really, as it is likely that the students whom were merely bystanders will have their records expunged by the judge. Where as the school will lose a lot of money, and gain a lot of negative press. In the worst case scenario, the principle will either be forced to step down or face repercussions from the School Board. Though it does suck that the school is like a prison now (assuming that the students aren't overreacting), and that they had to be put through that ordeal in the first place.
