  1. not anymore. it was kind of my childhood show.
  2. I like watching the psychology of people so I'll keep the show in the back of my mind. F/Z and F/SN will have to come first though.
  3. I have found more brethren. 's okay. mine also probably hated me, haha.
  4. Geez, these dentists need to get their heads straight. Yeah, try avoiding caramel. Unless you prefer living on the edge. Then go for it. "Living like Larry"
  5. lololol, don't trust that bs. I've eaten gum and popcorn without a problem. Caramel might be a bad idea though.
  6. If you're teeth are that bad, getting braces probably isn't a bad idea. Even though I had to go through years of suffering, I'm pretty happy with the end result.
  7. nope. it's easily one of the worst months of the year.
  8. Wait, are you serious My sister got them off around middle school-ish, and she stopped wearing her retainer around the end of high school. Her teeth now look worse than those fake teeth people wear on Halloween. lol I'm kidding, but they do look pretty bad.
  9. I'm kinda wondering why January has been crapping on my life lately. January feels like the Monday of the year.
  10. If that's the case, I've been lied to.
  11. Actually, you pretty much have to wear it your entire life. My sister was kinda lazy about it, and her bottom set of teeth look atrocious now. welp, there's a couple hundred bucks down the drain. Retainers aren't that bad though.
  12. Braces in general are really painful the first few weeks. The outcome is worth it though. Better get it over with now than later in high school, right?
  13. Oh geez, I haven't experienced something like this for the longest time. I've been caught up in so much work these days I was never able to fully appreciate or acknowledge this sort of phenomenon. Most of the time I'm running hectically from place to place so I don't fall behind. It's times like this where I really wish I could have a 'do nothing' day so I can finally give myself an opportunity to unwind. Natural beauty is often overshadowed when work takes top priority. I've been in a salty mood lately so reading this really helped take me back to my more tranquil days. Once I get my midterms and stresses over with, I think I'll take a day to wallow in as much nature as possible before the next term begins. Perhaps if I'm lucky, I'll be able to experience some diamond dust if temperatures get cold enough. A day off would be fantastic, but I digress. I'm glad you decided to share this. January is one of the more depressing months for me.
  14. I'm not a huge fan of this oversimplification because it feels like a huge insult to physicists. I'd prefer to end this conversation before this turns into a full out rant.
  15. I like Canada (especially Toronto). I've visited there several times because of my sister's piano competitions. I think the only reason why my parents moved out of there was because the stuff is too expensive. "thats harsh" whoops, I didn't mean for it to come off that way. It's a stereotype that Americans have an extreme sense of nationalism. I mean, I'm an American myself, haha. I think you're really oversimplifying the concept of a black hole. It almost feels insulting. never mind, it's probably just me, lol
  16. That's my only motivation for wanting to watch it, lol I've always wanted to watch Psycho Pass. How would you compare it to other anime you've watched?
  17. Sure, the concept of a hole in space is easy to understand, but you could say the same for anything. Cars, for example. They're everywhere, and they're ingrained into our everyday lives. But have you ever thought about how complex their mechanisms actually are? I guess this is where America's self-inflated ego comes from, lol
  18. 1.5 I'm not counting stuff like Japanese or Spanish since I only know a morsel of those.
  19. we'd be trolled big time if they didn't by the end of the series
  20. Well, you'd also have to factor in the boy's metabolism in addition to his genes and diet. Even if you are in full control of his environment and nutrition, the boy's metabolism can still fluctuate throughout his lifetime. Something as wishy-washy as height is difficult to accurately calculate within a given time frame. It's possible to find a range, but I don't believe that it's possible to predict an exact height. There are other ways to control it though. If the boy has stunted growth caused by a defect in the pituitary gland (or even malnutrition), he could be given HGH in order to compensate. Nevertheless, that still wouldn't be enough to fully control his height. Actually, what I'm trying to say is, you can't really "calculate" this kind of stuff. Human genetics is lottery, the conditions people reside in change frequently, and trying to predict precise outcomes using numbers is nearly impossible. Nature and nurture will always coincide--they can't run "head-on-head." However, depending on the person, one may dominate over the other. For example, someone with severe autism won't be as greatly impacted by environment as a normal person who is in total control of his or her life (nurture). Instead, the autistic person would be too hindered by the crippling condition (nature). As for the boy's height, if you theoretically were able to control every aspect that factors into his height, it might be possible to calculate his exact height (don't quote me on this, haha). Unfortunately, this isn't the case. There are countless amounts of these factors, so this would be a highly unrealistic goal. But like I said before--it's still possible to find a range. I have no concrete answer for your nature vs. nurture discussion. It really varies from person to person. I, however, tend to lean towards nurture being the more significant facet if you're referring to how it affects the average population. Ahh, sorry if this wasn't much help. It's rather difficult to find solid proof stating that one truly is superior to the other because to be honest, it really can't.
  21. There's already a thread like this under forum games: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/forum/topic/1294-paste/ just wanted to point that out.
  22. Care to elaborate? OMM: oh my goodness the discussion on Schrodinger's Cat in the Science thread killed time off from doing the 120 problem midterm calc packet that is due on Friday. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. What are you guys doing to me?!
  23. Some people might be more athletic than others because they were born with a larger lung capacity. Perhaps someone is better at doing Geometry over Algebra because his or her brain is wired differently. These are traits that you cannot change. You can try to improve them, but everything genetics-related is pretty much set in stone. Whether the trait/habit is from nature or nurture depends on what it is. Skin color is most definitely determined from nature. Others, such as height, are in the gray area since they might be attributed to both nature and nurture. One person may have all homozygous dominant alleles for height (nature), but might've been living under extreme poverty for his or her entire life. So instead of being 6'5 like they're supposed to, this person might end up 4'2 because of malnutrition (nurture). So really, there is no definitive way to tell whether a trait/habit is from nature or nurture. Schrodinger's Cat is the uncertainty principle. I think you're referring to the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. It basically implies that all outcomes of an event are possible and real--in other words, an infinite amount of different timelines/universes exist based on this theory. It relates to Schrodinger's Cat in that the cat can wound up either dead or alive. The many-worlds interpretation implies that both of these outcomes exist in decoherence.
  24. Pretty much exactly how my parents treat me. I guess it's a bit understandable since they never really did experience issues that we encounter today, but it's still extremely frustrating when they don't even bother trying to sympathize. Writing all my frustrations down really helps clear out my mind. Instead of taking my anger out on people (aka my friends, haha), I feel it's much more effective just to leave my thoughts on paper. Your parents emotionally blackmail you? And it's inevitable? I feel like I'm missing a few details here because I don't see what they're trying to accomplish by doing that. It's good that you've managed to find a few friends around here. The DCW community is definitely my go-to place whenever I need to clear my mind and get away from things. I like to think of it as a short vacation. Hrmm, your parents seem a bit stubborn. My mom is usually willing to discuss some of this stuff as long as it relates to her field. I rarely talk to my dad about anything nowadays since I really have no effective way of communicating with him. I can't even ask him for homework help because of the different language jargon. Calling someone abnormal is a very blunt insult. I used to take everything my parents said to heart so if they went as far as to calling me abnormal (and not in a joking manner), I would have accepted it without a second thought. Honestly, that's a bit cruel of them. Where: Not sure what "where" is supposed to mean, but if you're referring the impacts it has on human life or the human body in general, it very well affects a good chunk of both. Err, actually, scratch that. I think you're trying dive into loci. Or it could be that I'm overthinking your question. I think the simplest answer to this is that it occurs on chromosomes. When: Your genetics follows you before you're out of your mothers womb till the day you die. The onset of Parkinson's disease can an example of your genes affecting you in your later years. The latter is a bit easier to explain; take gender, for example. How: "when a man and woman love each other very much..." Typically, your chromosomes can undergo genetic recombination/crossing-over, nondisjunction, other mutations (translocation), etc., all of which are determined out of our control. tl;dr It's basically all because of genetics. Ahahaha, my friends and I always use Schrodinger's Cat to joke about our grades. here's a picture that overgeneralizes everything about his experiment
  25. The mods seemed to have moved it now, so no need to worry. As stated before, you'll be able to find it in this section: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/forum/forum/22-drawings/ It's under "Fan Works" Oh, seeing that you're new here, welcome to DCW! Hope you enjoy your time here!
