I found out about "Detective Conan" casually while I was searching for another anime series called "Future boy Conan". Since then I have been "addicted" (now to a lesser extent) because of the desire to finally see how the story will end, and the fact the ending is nowhere to be seen is quite frustrating.

I really hope you are right. However, looking at how the things are going, it wouldn't surprise me if Gosho died of old age before finishing the manga, and who knows what his successors might put there instead of the originally intended ending. Just to make an example: there was this manga author Osamu Tezuka who wrote a series known in English as "Kimba the white lion" and made an anime out of it. The original ending was a sad one: the lion main character dies to save his human friend. However, in the anime he did change the ending to a happy one, probably to give the viewers a break considering how dark and full of deaths the 2 season of the anime was. Then he died, and other anime makers made another anime full-length movie where they put the original tragic ending (probably they just wanted to have the last word). What's the worst thing, is that the lion not just died to save his friend, but the friend actually survived by EATING the lion with his permission and making a tent out of his hide. I don't know, maybe some Japanese viewers who eat even dolphins can handle such an ending, but I definitely can't (before somebody starts an argument accusing me to be disrespectful to the Japanese, I repeat that I said SOME viewers, I am not labeling all Japanese as dolphin-eaters). By the way, why can't I post smileys? I click on the button, but nothing happens.

I understand what you are saying, but I think it has to be noticed that Gosho never said he will give each of those stories a happy ending. I think he probably will give one to Shinichi x Ran, unless the Haibara fans pressure him, but I am sure (unfortunately) that he will give open endings to most of the rest (Eri and Kogoro 100%), as most viewers would start spitting on the TV and saying they are tired of "sugar-coated happy endings that stink". There are many people have no problems in their lives and want to feel negative emotions (especially sadness) when they are watching something. What I mean is that I think that, as long as there is no guarantee all those childhood friend stories have happy endings, there is still hope for those who hate them that the author will make "bad" endings for them, therefore arranging things in such a way as if the stories never existed (I am not trying to force this point of view on anybody, it's just that to me a story has a point only if it has a happy ending, unless it is a representation of a real-life tragedy that cannot be changed. Maybe it's too extreme, but I have read too much sad fiction already, so I am fed up for the rest of my life)

What?
-
I don't really see why people think fiction should necessarily be realistic. When I read or watch fiction, I do it to immerse myself in a world which gives a sense of hope unlike real life and where rare but good things are more common.
-
If you are right, then I can only hope he won't make bad endings for most of the pairings, just to reflect his own tragedy.

I noticed many people on internet hate romances between childhood friends, especially in Detective Conan where there are many of them. What's sad is that they don't just dislike specific pairings like Shinichi x Ran or Heiji x Kazuha, but hate this type of pairings in general, only because it's love between childhood friends. People often get so mad that they even write fanfictions where childhood friends are evil and selfish individuals while the "other woman" (or man) is a kind and gold-hearted person. For example, people are constantly bashing Akira from the "Ufo Baby" anime (don't know if you watched it) and that kind of behavior makes me extremely sad and depressed. I would like to ask: what do people on this forum think about this kind of romance? I personally like it much more than love stories between people who met as adults because if the bond is established in an innocent period such as childhood, there is a guarantee it's really love and not just lust. I think the love formed between two children that last throughout their lives is one of the best things ever, even though it's so rare... That's the main reason I prefer Shinichi x Ran over Conan x Ai.

I think not quite enough. The BO cases are not that many compared to the rest, and the fact that Conan mostly goes after desperate people who commit crimes out of despair because the law doesn't help them annoys me very much. At least he could do without reading them morals and could say he is sorry for their situation. Conan must be really ignorant about the law if he thinks all murders are the same and there is no such thing as extenuating circumstances. No fictional detective I read about is so proud of being heartless. They all send murderers to prison, but at least they acknowledge the fact they sometimes deserve compassion. Limiting himself to the sentence "murder is wrong" without thinking about anything else is a primitive way of thinking, just the extreme opposite of killing everybody you don't like.
-
Speaking of drugs, are you people for or against legalizing them? I am definitely against, the "freedom" argument doesn't really stand because people often start using them just because of being naive, later they would very much like to stop, but can't because of being addicted.
-
A question that has been tormenting me forever since I have started watching Detective Conan: why does Gosho never do stories where the murderers are really evil people without scruples, like for example in Agatha Christie's books? I mean, there are such characters in DC, but they are always killed before Conan arrives and are therefore the "victims" of the present case, while the murders of innocent people are always something that happened in the past and are only used as the background for the main cases. Why do you think does he almost never let Conan investigate murders where an innocent person is killed by an evil person? It would be interesting to see Conan confront a criminal completely who is completely without scruples and unable to repent.
-
Another thought, even though an extremely banal one: when does Detective Conan end (although all of you have surely already asked yourself this question)?
-
So what's on my mind right now? Right now I am thinking about how dishonest it is when admins spread false rumors about banned users after the ban, something that happened to me on DCTP about a year ago (I am not complaining about the ban itself, but about the fact I could never prove to others that things said about me later were untrue).

Yes, but the question is: why did the authorities give a death sentence to somebody who was insane while committing crimes? I mean, if I remember correctly, Numabuchi has gone crazy and killed people because he thought they were the Organization members who were going to kill him.
-
A question:
-
I have recently been told by another Conan fan that Kiichiro Numabuchi was going to be executed according to the manga after being captured in the episode about the fireflies and Mitsuhiko's disappearance. If I remember correctly, in the manga it was just said "he wanted to see that place again before dying". So I have a question: do you think that actually means he was going to be executed or were they just referring to his natural death behind bars? Because it seems really weird to me that they would sentence to death somebody convicted for crimes committed while being insane (they said Numabuchi was convicted for killing people who he thought were members of the black organization sent to kill him, after having gone crazy). Edit: Sorry, I haven't noticed there already was the "questions" thread when I posted.

But why, I still don't get it. What's wrong with typical perfect endings, as long as there is enough suspense during the story.
-
Why? Aren't there enough "non-happy" endings in real life?
-
I like Ran because of her personality of a "good" character, faithful to the one she loves. Also, I like Genta because he is similar to my cat, and the cat Goro (I just like cats especially).
-
Sorry, I mistook the numbers. And I understand it's illegal, but still, Conan treats them as if there were no difference between crimes with extenuating circumstances and those without them. I never understood why Gosho avoids plots with criminals who kill for money, power, jealousy or something like that. Without such plots, it seems that Conan doesn't contribute in any way to the social justice.
-
I disagree. In 90% of the episodes in DC the culprits have good reasons to commit crime, while the real "villains" in the stories are the victims. I am not completely justifying crimes committed for revenge, but I think it can't be denied that in most of the cases in DC the victims are much worse than those who have killed them. They commit their crimes in cold blood, while those caught by Conan act out of despair. 166-167

It's sad so many people want the fiction to be full of sad endings as if there weren't enough of them in real life
-
Did somebody understand who killed the man on the motorcycle in episode 4 and why? I think this was never explained.
-
I don't like one thing about Conan: he doesn't understand the juridical concept of "extenuating circumstances", present in most of the murder cases he investigates.
-
Hondou Hidemi, Kaito Kid and Kaito Kid's father. It's not that I really hate them, just "dislike" them. I used to hate Kaito Kid though, but got tired of that

Detective Conan series banned in Indonesia
Hobgoblin2012 replied to Denaya Kudo's topic in Detective Conan World
This reminds me of the censorship they made in Italy. For example, they cut away the word "drugs" from an episode and substituted it with "microfilm", making the motive of the murder quite absurd.
