This topic got depressing...
My dad taught me how to write my ABCs when I was 3 (with a belt). So I was emotionally scarred by that. He also made me read and study a lot during my childhood, which is the opposite of Shinichi because his father wanted him to refrain from reading too much. I mean I appreciate that he wants me to be knowledgeable, but there’s a thin line between wanting me to be my best and forcing me to be my best. His teaching style is very harsh though, when I make a mistake, he would scold me (or whack me with a belt during my younger years). So it’s hard to determine whether he loves me or not. He is asian (Filipino) by the way, maybe the stereotypes for asian fathers are true.
I'm sorry for you all who have father issues, or family issues in general, too...
