Akai family

The Akai family has three known members so far: Shuichi Akai, Masumi Sera, and an unknown middle brother. Masumi has also alluded to a well endowed mother and a deceased father. According to Masumi, her surname Sera comes from her mother's side, and her second brother had also been sharing this surname until he graduated from high school. There is Mary who may be part of the Akai family.

Shuichi Akai (1st son)

Shuichi Akai is the 1st son in Akai family. He is an FBI agent and a major figure in the battle against the Black Organization. He once assumed the identity of Dai Moroboshi and infiltrated the Organization, where he was given the codename Rye. During this time he made enemies with Gin and Bourbon and became romantically involved with Akemi Miyano.

Unknown (2nd son)

Assuming the middle brother is between 16 (assumed lower range for Masumi's real age) and 35 (assumed upper range for Akai's age based on his appearance and reasonable full-blooding sibling age separation), multiple characters could qualify for his identity. It's possible that the middle brother is a minor character who was a suspect or witness in a case, but did not distinguish himself or demonstrate his intelligence. It's also possible for the middle brother to be a character who has not been introduced yet, but will be later in a flashback. Some fans speculate that Mary who looks like a member of the Akai family might be the brother after being shrunken by APTX 4869 and some others speculate that he is Shukichi Haneda. So far most of the hints indicate Shukichi, but it isn't confirmed yet.

During the Red Woman case, its stated that his classmates are around 28-29 years old, which narrows down the age range significantly. Counting a possible gap of a year, he could be somewhere between 27-30, though the middle numbers are more likely.

Masumi Sera (1st daughter)

Masumi Sera is the 1st/2nd daughter in Akai family. She is a high school detective. She is the younger sister of FBI agent Shuichi Akai and a practitioner of the martial art Jeet Kune Do. Although she grew up in Japan during her elementary school years, she moved to America three years ago with her mother, presumably due to Akai infiltrating the Black Organization. She has recently returned to Japan for some unknown reason.

Timeline

• Mr. Akai and Mrs. Sera are born and married. Mrs. Sera takes her husband's surname Akai.
• >28 years ago: Shuichi Akai is born.
• 28-29 years ago: the middle brother is born with the surname Akai. (His approximate age is based on the age of his classmates.)
• 16-17 years ago: Masumi Akai is born in Japan. At this time, the middle brother is approximately 12-13 and in junior high.
• Sometime after Masumi is conceived, the father dies. The time of the father's death is uncertain, but Masumi implies it affected the family names.
• >14-15 years ago: Masumi and the middle brother start using the family name Sera instead of Akai.
• 14-15 years ago: the middle brother enters high school with the family name Sera. Masumi is ~2.
• 10-11 years ago: the middle brother graduates high school and changes his family name from Sera to something else. Masumi is 4-5. (Masumi says all three siblings have different family names. Masumi has "Sera", Shuichi has "Akai", and the middle brother has something else.)
• 5-10 years ago: Shuichi sends Masumi Jeet Kune Do videos. (Masumi is 6-11 and in elementary school)
• 5 years ago: Shuichi starts infiltrating the Black Organization and dating Akemi Miyano. The middle brother is 23-24 and Masumi is 11.
• 4 years ago: Masumi sees Shuichi in Japan.
• 3 years ago: Mrs. Akai and Masumi move to America, Masumi goes to middle school in America.
• 2 years ago: Shuichi is uncovered as an FBI agent and is ejected from the Black Organization.
• Current: Masumi comes back at the age of 16-17 to Japan. The middle brother has been living in Japan.

Mary

Masumi Sera has been shown interacting with a child named Mary who may be related to the Akai family. Mary appears to be a middle-school aged girl, has the characteristic Akai family eyes, and asks Masumi to tell Conan she is her little sister from outside the territory.

As Masumi didn't mention having a younger sister, this had led to fan speculation that the child could be one of the other family members shrunken by APTX 4869.
