Situation

Part 1

On the Shinkansen where Iori is having his ride with Momiji, Heiji, and Kazuha, a drunk man accidentally spills his beer on Iori's sleeves, forcing Iori to wash it in the restroom. There, he notices a phone left behind that is also ringing, he answers the call trying to help the person receiving it back, only to realize that Momiji is dragged into a hostage situation that requires Iori to follow the order of that person or else she will be killed.

The person asks him to wake up a man sitting near the window at the end of the train car no.14, Iori says that he couldn’t wake him up as the person admits his disgusting crime of killing the person, and requests him to take the USB from that person. It appears that the murder was performed accidentally while they happened to see Iori, whom they knew to be a former PSB officer as mentioned earlier, and they decided to use Momiji as a hostage to force Iori to do the dirty job of theirs.

The writer refused to give his USB and tried to fight back, only to receive a fatal stab.

However, they can’t find anything near the victim so the blackmailer suggests that Iori find it in the luggage instead. The luggage has regular items for a normal tourist, except for a blue notebook that has a statement related to Tsuguri’s recent scandal in its last page, which reminds him about the suicide of the man’s secretary. Meanwhile, Momiji’s group was worried that Iori disappeared suddenly for no reason and asked Heiji to check it out, which makes Iori improvise so that he could continue the searching, not knowing that Heiji has been calling Conan to confirm the situation that the group is in.

Iori also gradually comes to the conclusion that the USB may contain evidence that can reveal something about the suicide, and that he himself has met the blackmailer at some point in the past. He recalls three years ago when he was still a PSB officer, he was very tired and slightly injured from the fight with numerous scoundrels in the villa of the former prime minister. He decided to use a cloth from his uniform to stop bleeding and have rest is the storage room of the villa where he unintentionally encountered Momiji Ooka, who happened to be safe all along because of her mischievous intentions like any child. At first, Iori planned to have his colleagues escort the girl home safely while he himself would take the desired nap. But not long after, it was interrupted by the presence of three scoundrels with murder intentions on the girl upon learning that the former prime minister was not there all along. While Iori was worrying about Momiji’s safety, the girl suddenly grabbed his hand in fear and was revealed to have done first aid for wounds of the sleeping officer with many many bandages.

Part 2

Having been found by the scoundrels, Iori had no choice but to defeat them like other scoundrels. However, one of them managed to flee away from being subdued by the PSB officers later on and swore to make Iori pay one day.

The story returns to the present where Iori still hasn’t found the USB yet, as the butler return to the body to finally notice how the victim hid it so well that the blackmailer couldn’t find in the first place, Heiji comes with message from Conan, hinting that they have acknowledged about the situation.

Heiji and Iori improvise to turn a conversation about the situation into choosing what fruit juice to drink, with Heiji giving the USB he and Conan had found earlier to Iori so the latter can continue following the order of the blackmailer. After the USB is put in the location given from the beginning and Heiji giving his signal to start the counterattacking plan, Iori returns to the seat near the body and falsely accuses the error in the USB with gradually decreasing voice, causing the blackmailer to yell so loudly that it will expose his current location to Heiji, while Kazuha knocks out the one holding the knife in front of Momiji’s witness. However, the USB somehow disappeared while the two culprits were in another carriage, as it turns out, there is also a woman disguised as a train attendant involved in this USB retrieving mission, and she is about to stab anyone who gets in her way when Iori comes back in time and takes the critical hit. But in the end he is fine due to the Karuta deck that he had kept inside earlier when Heiji refused to play as of lack of space in the Shinkansen. Not long after when the Shinkansen arrives at the Tokyo station, the criminals are subdued by Inspector Megure’s team that Conan had called earlier.

The blackmailer is indeed the scoundrel who fled from being subdued by the PSB officers 3 years ago, the drunkard we saw earlier is also involved in the plan to retrieve the USB as he spilled the beer on purpose, not accidentally. The two men and the woman are ordered by Tsuguri to retrieve the USB as it contain the video footage of Tsuguri’s secretary being forced to commit suicide by Tsuguri himself and the three criminals.

At the station, Furuya Rei and Yuya Kazami are also seen discussing about Iori, who is revealed to have graduated from the Police Academy at the same year as Kazami, and had been assigned the same division of Furuya but he eventually retired to become the butler of the Ooka’s family. But it is still unknown why Kazami has to come when Furuya tells that his work for today is done while Furuya goes to meet someone in the Shinkansen, only to receive a call from The Mysterious Old Man with Bird ordering him to investigate Conan Edogawa and leave no stone unturned. What is more strange is that when Kuroda calls him and asks why he is not answering immediately, Furuya does not tell him about the inquiry to investigate the boy from the Mysterious Old Man with Bird.
