While at his office, Kogoro receives a request from Kanae Kaetsu, a client whose mother's brooch was stolen. They have to follow letters left by the robber to find out the truth.

The target wasn't Kanae, but Kogoro Mouri all along. Kanae Kaetsu planned to lead him around by the nose and wait for the best time to kill him. The locations that the fictional robber had put were in fact the most memorable places she went to with her boyfriend Ryoji Nagakura. It turned out that the attempted murders on Kanae were just mere accidents by bystanders. Kanae wanted to kill Kogoro because he cornered Ryoji and had him arrested, which led to his suicide. She decided to kill him the day he died, but waited till her mother died, just a week ago. She takes out her knife and plants it in the tree.

Kanae took out her knife and was about to stab the unconscious Kogoro, but instead just stabbed it into the tree. She then left.

She wasn't able to kill him, because she found out he was actually kind-hearted.

Aftermath

In the end, Kanae left and Kogoro wakes up thinking she is till there. Conan tells him she didn't kill him nor herself and just left, making Kogoro proud of saving someone. He even said that she thanked Kogoro.

Trivia

• Most of the locations shown had repeated kanjis in their name: "美美美" in Bibibi Publishing or "岡ヶ岡" in Okagaoka Cemetery.
