Situation

Part 1

After returning to Mouri Detective Agency, Heiji asks them to help find Teruaki Kunisue, a sophmore from Teitan University who Heiji accidentally gave Kazuha's lucky charm. They all head to Teitan University the next day only to find out that he has not been attending classes due to a broken wrist. Ran learns from Kazuha that she left a photo of Heiji in it and does not want Heiji to find out about the charm's contents. Later, Ran, Conan, Heiji, and Kazuha, go to a sports parlor where Teruaki is suppose to be only to discover from the police that Teruaki has been assaulted by an unknown assailant.

Conan and Heiji deduce that Teruaki attended a baseball game and that one of the suspects must be lying. Conan and Heiji realize that the soccer game fan, Takuya Kyuma, had been using baseball terms to describe a soccer game meaning he attended a baseball game. They reveal that Takuya Kyuma attacked Teruaki for a baseball he got from a home run and reveal that the baseball is in his popcorn bag.

Kyuma confesses and reveals his dead girlfriend's wish was to get a baseball from a home run. But when Teruaki was rude to him, Kyuma snapped and hit him. At the hospital, Teruaki has woken up. He explains that he had been in a bad mood and only heard half of what Kyuma said, which was the reason for his rude attitude. He decides to let Kyuma have the baseball as an apology for his behavior and drop the charges after hearing the whole story. Teruaki apologizes to Kazuha and tells her Heiji has her charm. After Kazuha leaves the room, Conan revealed that Teruaki was in love with Kazuha, which was why he got in a bad mood after finding a picture of Heiji inside the charm. Teruaki then asked Ran to tell Kazuha that he's sorry for being mean. Kazuha who was finding Heiji, sees Heiji holding the picture. Heiji sees a picture of him has been doodled on and becomes irritated with Kazuha. Conan and and Ran finally understood what Teruaki meant by "being mean" which was pranking the photo.

• It is the only manga-based case which only includes Takagi as the police in the crime scene.
