At the Italian Izakaya “RESO” located in Beika Gourmet Restaurant Street, Kogoro and Conan are enjoying the tasty pizza baked by Takashi Yamaura, the owner of the restaurant and Kogoro’s acquaintance. Yamaura tells Conan the time Kogoro caught a person who dined and dashed at the restaurant, the way he threw the person so hard that it left a trace on the wall. As Yamaura is about to show the trace, hidden behind by the restaurant’s menu, an excavator strikes at the restaurant, injuring him in the process.

The three go outside to see what is going on. Yamaura, upon seeing the excavator, furiously lashes out at the man driving the vehicle for reckless endangerment, to which the driver can only say he was hired by the owner of the alley, Hiroyuki Kusumi. Because numerous shop owners in the alley rejected the demolition request from Kusumi, he has been attempting to harass them, which has caused one shop owner to die under stress. Under the assistance of Fumio Nakano, owner of Sushi "Sakura-ya" and Yuji Yonezawa, owner of Creative Cuisine "Seventy Seven", Kogoro successfully controls the situation and makes Kusumi walk away.

Not long after, Conan wants to use the toilet. The toilet uses a special coin mechanism to unlock and lock the door. 15 minutes later, when Kogoro wants to use the toilet, he discovers the unconscious Kusumi inside. It was believed that he tripped in the toilet and hit his head. However, Conan realizes it is not an accident.
