Why are the keyboard keys positioned like this?

According to google, the guy who made the first typewriter changed it up to make sure that one letter didn't clash with another sinc old-timey typewriters used to do that. But over time, I guess we've all become accustomed to qwerty. Have you ever tried typing on an abcdef keyboard? It's quite weird.

I think it's so that the most used letters or something are placed next to each other and it's easier to type/form words that way? ^^" I think I heard that from someone..
