  1. http://www.hulu.com/case-closed What they have on is the original Japanese Version (with English Subs) of episodes 1-11 and 19-20. As well as the dubbed versions of 1-4 and 11.
  2. At the very least, the movies and seasons released in the US do allow for viewing in Japanese and without subs.
  3. Caught the airings of Case Closed on Adult Swim and got hooked. But I went with the manga for the reasons in this thread:
  4. Well, I think the forgiveness is a possibility, but there needs to be some build up to her forgiving him, which is why I hope the confession happens prior to the final arc (not right away mind you). Yeah, but considering that it's a dream that Conan himself is having, things like that need to be taken with a grain of salt.
  5. I go for the manga because it's a little more compressed in comparison, and the stories are done the way the author intended. "The Strange Person Hunt Murder Case" and "The Shinkansen's Bomb Case" for example actually are part of the Black Organization storyarc whereas in the anime they are much more basic stories. Plus, the choice to omit Gin & Vodka as well as mentions of their Organization result in the plothole for "Game Company Murder Case" where Conan somehow knows their codenames and that they are part of an organization. Not to mention that filler episodes like "Mountain Villa Bandaged Man Murder Case", "Luxury Liner Murder Case" and "Akaoni Village Fire Festival Murder Case" actually contribute to the story in the manga. Plus, the reordering of certain stories meant that some scenes (like Conan adjusting to elementary school and Sonoko meeting him for the first time) are omitted from the anime entirely.
  6. I'd liken them more to the siblings he never had.
  7. I'd say it's a case of him enjoying their company sometimes, while being annoyed at other times. But overall, yeah early on when he was still adjusting to his state, he definitely saw them as a necessary annoyance. Though even if time doesn't pass as much inuniverse, he obviously hung out with them enough to a point where I can't see him distancing himself from them even if/when he is cured. As for me, they're okay. They (along with other characters like Kogoro) help to lighten up the mood from time to time. Though there could be more attempts to have them become more capable, so that when/if Conan permanently becomes Shinichi, it's believeable that they can function without him.
  8. Considering how long the series has gone on, and that it might still be a while before ending, a change would arguably be a good thing. And it could make for an interesting characterization for Ran to find medium between being involved while knowing when to leave things up to Shinichi/Conan. And the hinderance argument works both ways. Look at the end of Episode 523 where Shinichi has to hide before he turns back into Conan and Ran tries to keep him there. Had Ran been in on the secret, that little incident wouldn't have happened. Edit: Now lets look at the heart of the matter. The rationalization for keeping Ran in the dark is to keep her from becoming a target. But look at Episode 425 when they thought Kogoro was onto them. Gin was perfectly willing to kill Conan (who from their perspective was a 7 year old boy unaware of the Organization), and thus Ran could still be a target even if she isn't in the know.
  9. Don't hate the character, and am infact a Shin/Ran fan. But to respond with some criticism and comments. As Kyuu pretty much points out, it's more to do with the fact that she's had these traits for over 600 episodes/700 files. Granted I'm critical of token female characters/love interests (as much as Ran has had some adequate stories, she still gives that feeling off to me), I find it forgiving if the series in question is shorter and said character doesn't appear frequently. But again Ran appears frequently, and both anime & manga are really long. Among other reason (which I will post here later this evening: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/forum/topic/2511-kudo-and-ran/page__st__20) I think having Ran find out the secret would actually remedy the problem by adding her to the list of people who keep the secret. Too true. I mean heck you have some fans who act like anime and manga are the end all/be all of entertainment, but if I let their obsessiveness get to me, I wouldn't be following Case Closed/Detective Conan today.
  10. I could definitely see aspects of this in the canon. And yeah, their take on Conan and how to identify him are pretty funny. And while I'm posting: Cases by Magic Kaito: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2239296/1/bCases_b I'm not sure whether it was ignoring continuity or being unaware, but in any event Conan decideds to rely on some drinks to cure himself when he's going on a case. Even if the immunity thing wasn't established, this fic shows the folly of such method.
  11. First off, I tried to vote, but got this: And I did answer each question (3 of them, right?) Anyway, I tend to go with Ran given how long their possible relationship has been teased. And I tend to look at Shinichi's planned date as a sign of how strong he felt about Ran. I mean he chose the restaraunt and table because his father proposed to his mother in that very location. Haibara/Conan while it's not the resolution I hope to see, it doesn't really seem objectionable to me. And since Ayumi's been brought up. Well, I tend to support the Ai/Mitsuhiko pairing on the grounds that she doesn't show him any romantic feelings until both are 17, and of course that she decides to grow up again rather than having a cure. Conan on the other hand intends to try to find a way to become Shinichi, and partially because of wanting to be with Ran (Heck, I often wonder if his determination to return to being Shinichi would be lessened if Ran was out of the picture). Furthermore, Conan is ignorant to Haibara having feelings for him, so we can't be too sure how he would react to an admission of those feelings (Again, I'm looking forward to Shinichi/Ran, but I give the benefit of the doubt when possible), but with Ayumi we know full well that he doesn't return her crush.
  12. Yeah, I'm not the deducing type myself, but with some of the people who've been debating on the aforementioned mysteries, I figured that some of the fandom might have solved it. And hey I got one response stating that they did, with another coming close. Maybe it's the English translation or my lack of observation, but what do you mean? Did Vermouth call him Cool Guy while Jodie called him Cool Kid?
  13. Perhaps, but some posters in the threads trying to guess on Okiya, Scar Akai and whether Akai has died or not, stated that Gosho doesn't make the mysteries completely unsolveable and even pointed to the topic mystery as an example. And on the Vermouth article, the following bits seemed to be produced for the intent of giving readers a (slim) chance to figure it out. Said clues: 1. The records of Kogoro Mouri's cases that Vermouth stole did not contain any cases involving Jodie Saintemillion, but did the contain the murder case Tomoaki Araide was involved in. This was the clue that allowed Conan to deduce Araide was Vermouth. 2. Jodie's copies of the pictures of Ran and Conan on Vermouth's dart have irregular borders indicating they were photographs of Vermouth's pictures. (Volume 34: #File 343 - Who Are You?) This detail was overlooked in the anime. Also Jodie has a picture of Dr. Araide. 3. Araide switches from the basketball to the drama club. (Volume 27: #File 270 - Game Start) 4. Haibara skipped school on the day of the yearly health checkups that Dr. Araide gives the elementary school students. Conan wonders if Haibara thinks there is something wrong with Araide. (Volume 29: #File 287 The Unseen Horror) 5. Vermouth falls out of character. One of her patients says Dr. Araide has been acting like a stranger. Also, "Dr. Araide" claims to have sent his grandmother and housekeeper Hikaru ahead to Aomori, which is strange because it was established in the Araide family murder case (Volume 24: #File 235 - In the Darkness...) that Araide didn't trust them (especially Hikaru) to take care of themselves. (Volume 35: #File 355 - Mystery of the Haunted House 1)
  14. Now me, I got into the Detective Conan series when it came to the US as Case Closed. By then Vermouth had been revealed to have been disguising as Dr. Araide, where before hand it seemed like she was posing as an English Teacher. Now of course her page does contain bits in the story which foreshadowed the truth, but who here actually figured it out before the manga revealed it? And for that matter how did you figure it out.
  15. Bumping to ask a new question, post a long overdue response and add more to my opinion. Now many of us who go with the idea that they will still pal around with Shinichi go with the comparisons to Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars. Given the many references to various mystery/detective stories, I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is yes. But are they intended by Gosho to be similar to the BSI, or it just worked out that way? To clarify, they would likely have to refer to him as Shinichi-Niisan in public (cause I tend to think that he would only reveal his secret to friends and family only), but when it's just them hanging out, I wonder if he would allow them to use a more casual addressing like Shinichi-Kun or San (I'm pretty sure one of those is the honorific for addressing a friend). I tend to think that Haibara would stay as a kid since she really has no reason to regain her real age. But the bit of your quote I bolded is precisely why I doubt Shinichi could sever his friendship with them. Had he only hung out with them once or even twice, then yeah I don't see him really caring to keep in touch. But even with the story's approach of time not really passing, I think he's been in their company too much to really avoid them.
  16. Adding to this, going on for too long it could easily face cancelation and end without closure.
  17. Have to think on this, but in the mean time. Eisuke's departure was actually explained, so does he really count as a lost character?
  18. So far every murder it seems (granted my memory might have failed me too) has been done for revenge, but has there been any murders that weren't done for vengeance (I'm talking the usual case of the episodes rather than any done by a member of the BO), and not counting the murders done to cover said person's track.
  19. I'd say he's arguably the more reckless member still around (With Pisco having been killed). And to add to that, Shinichi likely wouldn't have been caught and fed the Apotoxin had it just been Vodka. For that matter, he was about to shoot him despite cops being close by from the roller coaster case.
  20. Neon Genesis Evangelion. Library has all the episodes.
  21. Granted they don't need to have her find out right away (presuming that Gosho does intend for a confession to take place), but it should at least be a little sooner than the big confrontation with the Organization. For a couple reasons: 1. Having her find out at the end means that she instantly forgives him for the deception. Revealing it sooner prevents that. 2. Maybe it's a weak reason, but it would make for an interesting change of pace to have her helping out from time to time (whether it's with a case or helping to maintain the secret) If you don't mind me asking, how come?
  22. Now that I've discussed TMoCE and why I like it, I'm going to add more recommendations that I left off. All one shots. As someone who doesn't hate the Detective Boys (more specifically, the members who are actual kids), I tend to enjoy reading fics which have them maintaining their friendship with Conan after he becomes Shinichi again. And unlike the aformentioned Ran/Shinichi fics, these kind of stories are extremely rare. Of all the ones on ff.net, I can count all of them on my two hands. Some that I find stand out: 1. A Game of Tag by The Green Pilgrim: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2171421/1/A_Game_of_Tag Nothing big, but they play a game of tag, while coping with the fact that Shinichi has 10 years on them. 2. The New Assistants by zara2148: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5815567/1/The_New_Assistants Genta, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko become Shinichi's assistants. And yeah while it does work out, there is a bit of hilarity. Pretty good fic for those who view the three kids as Shinichi's Baker Street Irregulars. Granted the comparison isn't made or implied. 3. Ayumi Takes the Leads by Mysteryfan17: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7330355/1/Ayumi_Takes_the_Lead Both Shinichi and Ayumi are captured by and tied up by some criminals, with Ayumi getting free and having to go get help. Decent fic overall, and it even touches upon something I wondered. Shinichi first spent time with the Detective Boys as a kid. So would he allow them to address him in a more casual manner as opposed to the usual formal manner that kids (honorifics and all)?
  23. I really should have specified this in my first post, but I figured my example would have been enough. A good majority of fanfics tend to be underwhelming and don't always emulate the feeling of the official product. Thus when you recommend a fanfic I feel it's best to specify why you think highly of it. Going with my example, the whole Ran finding the truth about Conan/Shinici is an overused story for fics. Ran's reaction tends to border on an extreme whether it's being peeved or being understanding about it. This particular story, on the other hand refrains from both extremes. Plus, the writer actually does a great job of exploring the moral ramifications of Conan/Shinichi deceiving Ran while not telling us how we should feel. It acknowledges the past stories where she was suspicious, and in keeping with Gosho's writing even does a Sherlock Holmes parallel. So in short The Mystery of Conan Edogawa takes a premised used highly and makes it feel fresh, and even on par with the officially written stories in quality. It doesn't feel like a fanfic which is based on Detective Conan, it feels like Detective Conan.
  24. Don't know where the voice actors for the later BO members are, but I believe another source of dub names come from the cards that were made.
  25. Sure, but that's precisely the point I was looking to make in my previous post. "If we tell Ran, then we are definitely doomed". I mean if she's known for being lousy at lying or keeping a secret (not counting any anime exclusive stories), then sure, telling her would be suicide. Now that I think about it, hasn't Ran been doing well at keeping quiet about Shinichi in front of Okiya?
