Tarumi heads for the shower room, suited in Tsuba Zeriai, in order to hide what he believed to be blood from the murder where he is then killed by Kotegawa. + | Kotegawa confesses that Tarumi along with other members of the Shinnai University kendo club pushed a freshman during an initiation ceremony too hard and caused his death. Tarumi threatened to publicly release the information and discredit the team if they sought to kick him out (as he was the one directly responsible). Kotegawa decides to selfishly kill him because he refused to have his public image in the kendo team ruined. He then attempts to kill Heiji as well with another katana he brought but is beaten up by him. After Kotegawa is arrested, Heiji and Conan explore the town.</spoiler> | ||

- This is the first case, if not the only case, that mentioned that Kazuha and Heiji attend Kaihou High School, by name, and in fact Hattori is the captain of the Kendo team of this Osakan high school.
- This is the first mention of iaidou, which is different from Iaijutsu, or the Lai Technique, which is mentioned in Captured in Her Eyes.
- Many people may recognize Heiji Hattori in different ways: to Most, he is the son to the Osaka Prefectural Police Superintendent, Heizo Hattori, to others, the son of Shizuka Hattori, to many more, the High School Detective of the West, and apparently in Kendo circles, "You're that high-schooler, who single-handedly beat the best Kendo player in Osaka," who may be Soshi Okita, even though Heiji called it a draw to Kazuha, who claimed he lost, when it was stopped after he began bleeding behind the ear.
- The Osaka Castle has 8 floors, 2 moats, and stunning architecture, and was originally built in 1583, although much has happened to it, and it was restored yet again in 1997.
- This is the first case where there is actually several shadowy non-culprits with red eyes gathered together, watching.
- This is the first case that really showed that Heiji's father, Heizo Hattori, is a very competent police officer with deduction skills on par with Shinichi Kudo's father, Yusaku Kudo, and in short, both sons have a long way to go to measure up to their dads.
- This is the case that Heizo Hattori did to his son, which is use him as bait, was similar to Yusaku Kudo in The North Star No.3 Express Leaving Ueno, when he allowed the culprit to get close to killing Yukiko, just to see how far he would go, and that is exactly what Yusaku told Yukiko and Conan at the time.
