The culprit is Ryosuke Sawada. It seems that he, too, was a burglar. Kitagami tries to open the door to steal some of the jewelry that had been stolen on the other day. After they had made a deal, Kitagami changed his mind, being a bit too aggressive. Sawada confesses that he was not at fault, because Kitagami tripped, hit his head on the table and fainted. So, Sawada got the key of Kitagami and threw his unconscious body out of the room. Megure berates the culprit, saying "Not only you did commit robbery, but you also threw his body from the balcony in a childish attempt to hide what you've done." After that, Sawada breaks down in tears.

Trivia

• There is an error in this episode: when the victim slips on a bottle of alcohol in Kogoro's scenario, he is wearing white socks, but when he is falling off his balcony in the very next shot, his socks are black.
• Inspector Megure tells Junko Miyoshi that Division Three will be in contact with her soon regarding the thefts that took place in her apartment. Division Three focuses on robberies and is the division that Inspector Momose belongs to.
• Ryosuke Sawada is the same name of the victim in The Whistling Bookstore 2.
