Three days prior, Mutsumi Seino suddenly told her husband Daiichiro and her mother-in-law Ura that they should leave the house because Mrs.Sasaki, whose family moved away that morning, secretly told her that they were fleeing their cursed house. On the next day, Mutsumi told her husband that she was having a headache and her body felt feverish, which she put all the blame on the curse and nudged her family that they should move away before it is too late. Daiichiro was concerned about the situation, so he decided to have a look at the house. Conan and Kogoro happen to walk in Sasaki’s former neighborhood when they see Daiichiro peeking at Sasaki’s former residence. They reach out to him and learn about the rumor, so they decide to discuss it with him at the Mouri Detective Agency.
After hearing what has been happening to the Seinos, Kogoro makes a call to the Sasakis to ask why they moved, which was simply because of work. Kogoro does not reveal it to Daiichiro yet and asks if his wife has suspicious behaviors, to which he remembers three days ago: Prior to the dinner, he was watering the plants when Mutsumi came home from shopping, however, she did not respond to him while saying: “It’s not over” and “But that was five years ago, already”. From there, after Daiichiro leaves the detective agency, Kogoro and Conan discuss the details again and believe that Mutsumi must have made a terrible mistake from the past that is about to be exposed, so they decide to talk it out with her and her family. That is only after she returns from the hospital, as when the two arrive at the Seino residence, they learn from Daiichiro that she fell down the steps at the station. They let Daiichiro visit his wife as they wait on the street.
Moments later, a taxi arrives at Kogoro’s location where Daiichiro and Mutsumi would then get off. Coincidentally, Daiichiro appears to have forgotten to buy extra bandages on their way home, so Mutsumi is left confronted by Kogoro and Conan while he goes to get some. Mutsumi then confesses her past mistake to the two: "It happened in the summer five years ago when she was visiting an art museum in Kazahaya city. That day, she was walking at a park when a drunkard named Kenji Murakumo tried to grab her. She pushed him away and started to run once she saw him lying down unconscious and facing sideways. News reports on the next day made her terrified, as Murakumo was reported to have died from a blow to the back of his head. But at the same time, she remained confused till this day since she hasn’t received any summons from the police, despite running into Atsuko Uryu going the opposite way of her when she started slipping away. One month ago, Mutsumi saw Uryu again and learned that she moved to the neighbor half a month ago. She was afraid that Uryu would report her to the police if the two ran into each other again, so she had to move, but she needed a reason to do so. She took advantage of the fact that the Sasakis moved away for their work to create a rumor of a cursed house." She has now decided to turn herself in on the next day, which Kogoro believes to be a good decision.
