Heiji and Kazuha have been best friends since childhood and have kept close together throughout the years. Kazuha is perhaps the most important and closest person to him out of everyone in the series, vice versa. They go just about everywhere together from vacations to dinner dates, and even mystery cases. There are very rare episodes where the two aren't together because they always travel together to most of the places they go to. Kazuha and Heiji both share Twin Good - Luck Charms that contain the chain that kept them bonded together from when they where children and have worn them throughout the years. Heiji has been shown to be very jealous when another man takes a interest in her, as seen when he was clearly jealous when she told him she was hugging another man. In their love life status, Kazuha seems to be a few levels ahead of Heiji. Her feelings for him are pretty clear (love), while Heiji is still at a kindergarten level in the feelings department, however, recently, he's has begun to understand his feelings for Kazuha. Although, Heiji still can't find a way to express them to her, parallel to Shinichi's dilemma.

When the two were alone, in the car, Ran asked why she was, Kazuha shyly explains that it was because she and Heiji were wearing the same shirt, just as they did when Kazuha made her first appearance. Even though Ran tried to tell her it was only a coincidence, Kazuha had a hard time believing her story. That was until Ran took off the shirt she was wearing and put on the one she bought earlier. Ran's selfless action, finally convinced Kazuha that Ran only thought of Heiji as a friend, and since then, both of the girls have been great friends towards each other.

Kazuha was convinced by Ran to wear the same t-shirt as Heiji was. After Heiji asked why she wore the same thing, Kazuha decided it was too embarassing and went off to change. Heiji stopped her, explaining he liked it and they looked like siblings. Kazuha thought he was about to say something romantic, but was slightly disappointed by his answer.

*At the kendo tournament, Kazuha blushes as she tells Shizuka that Heiji has gotten very strong as a kendo fighter. She also helps Heiji put his gear on.

*Kazuha finds Heiji so he can arrive to his kendo tournament on time, even though he was in the BOYS BATHROOM, and she purposely DROPPED a bucket on his head.
+
*Exhausted from chasing Heiji at the tournament, Kazuha falls asleep onto Heiji's shoulder at dinner.

*Kazuha thought she was the reason Heiji skipped a few preliminaries, because she gave him a scar on Bikuni Island, but instead he made a joke out of it by claiming it was making him itchy, causing Kazuha, not surprisingly, to walk off angry.
+
*While in the car, Kazuha overhears her father telling Heiji's father that since Kazuha is reaching marriageable age, he'd rather she marry Heiji than some "irresponsible punk". Kazuha blushes at the thought, and is disappointed when her father tells Heizo it was a joke.

*Kazuha cheered Heiji on, when his match was about to begin.
+
*When Kazuha loses her wallet, she refuses to give up looking for it because it had her good-luck charm (with the handcuff chain) and other charms to ward off a murder case inside.

*Later, after the first murder was committed, Kazuha found Heiji, to remind him to eat his lunch, so he can have his strength and energy for the semi-preliminary games.
+
*Kazuha called her father to help investigate because he knows aditional information about the case; she initially tries to get Heiji to leave with her, but twhn leaves with just Ran because she wants to see his triumphant expression when he's solved the case. When he gets that expression, she blushes happily and assures the others that Heiji knows who the criminal is already.

*Kazuha is searching and yelling for Heiji.

*Kazuha grabs Heiji, after the case is solved, so he can compete in the tournament, but was too late.

*Kazuha falls asleep, onto Heiji's shoulder, before she could even eat the blowfish, Shizuka Hattori had made. Shizuka tells her son that it was because she kept looking for him all day.

*While in the car, Kazuha overhears her father, Ginshiro Toyama, telling Heiji's father, Heizo Hattori, that since Kazuha is "reaching the age of marriage", he wants Heiji to be with her, and not some, "irresponsible punk". Kazuha is slightly angry at her father's statement, but this scene showed that Kazuha's father wishes that his daughter and Heiji marry, meaning he trusts Heiji with Kazuha.

*Heiji lets Kazuha give Kogoro Mouri, Ran Mouri, and Conan Edogawa a tour of Osaka, but sarcastically states he regrets it. Then, he comes very close to her face, when he scolded her, Kazuha then would defend herself, in a "girlfriend" way.

*Heiji grabs Kazuha's arm, by surprise, telling her not to help the tourist group they met, or as he dubbed them, "weirdos".

*Heiji and Kazuha have another "love quarrel", about Kazuha's misplaced wallet, which she stated was because Heiji kept rushing her to leave. When he suggested that she forget about it, Kazuha told him it had her "lucky charm" inside, and raindrop hits her face. Heiji mistakes this as tears, and tells her not cry, until he realizes the rain pouring down. As the two look up at the sky about to rain, the viewers notice how close they are to each other.

*Kazuha tells Heiji that she isn't lying about the "treasure" their fathers were talking about before the current case started.

*Kazuha's father, Ginshiro Toyama arrives to help in the case, courtesy of Kazuha, so Heiji wouldn't be too preoccupied and they could have a delicious dinner. However, Heiji reacts badly and immaturely to her proposal, and begins berating her out loud and in front of her father, who reminds Heiji to be polite to Kazuha, when he's around, with a menacing glare. Getting the idea, Heiji quickly changes his attitude, and "respectfully" declined her invite, and tells her to go eat with Ran, which she does in irritation. This is a bit of foreshadowing, that a girl's boyfriend is expected  be nice to her, while in front of her father, especially if her father's tough, has a gun, works with the law enforcement, or all of the above, even though they're not officially a couple. Although, as Kazuha leaves with Ran, she looks back at Heiji and smiles, secretly happy of his decision.

*At the restaurant, Ran figures out that Kazuha called her father to HELP Heiji, and she tried to cover it up with insults, so she wouldn't be embarrassed. After this, Kazuha admits it was true, but she wanted to see Heiji's expression when he solved a case, that being the trait she ADMIRES and LOVES the most about him.

*Heiji hears Kazuha's scream, and quickly becomes worried.

*Heiji asks Kazuha questions about the supposed "suicide".

*Kazuha tells everyone Heiji they solved the case, and left with Conan. Kazuha stated she knew, while smiling and blushing, saying that, "Heiji had that look on his face, whenever he solved case".

Heiji and Kazuha

Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama serve as the beta couple for Detective Conan and a foil for Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri's relationship.

Relationship analysis

Heiji and Kazuha grew up together and are easily each other's best friend. Neither of them have been shown to have other close friendships, though Heiji does have a rivalry with fellow kendo practitioner Okita. They often spend time together, and Kazuha typically comes along when Heiji visits the Mouris or vice versa, getting caught up with Heiji in the criminal investigation. Kazuha and Heiji both wear good-luck charms that Kazuha made with pieces of the handcuff chain that stuck them together temporarily as children.[1] Kazuha and Heiji have both shown jealousy when the other appears interested in someone else, but they are not officially in a romantic relationship. Kazuha has demonstrated awareness of her affection for Heiji, but has been either too shy or otherwise interrupted any time she tries to tell him. Heiji, in contrast, is either emotionally oblivious or purposefully ignoring his feelings for Kazuha for most of the series. Heiji has yet to attempt any sort of confession to Kazuha, but he is very protective of her.
