Kogoro is asked by lawyer Kimihiko Asada to investigate a break-in and theft in his office. The object of the robbery was the altered last will of Karahashi Gotaro, the late chairman of the Karahashi Group, who - instead of favoring his next of kin, as previously intended - left his entire vast fortune to his lover and long-time secretary.

While going shopping for new video games with his fellow Detective Boys, Conan noticed the burglary into Asada's office and decided to investigate on his own. He caught the culprit breaking the safe open, but was discovered, kicked into uncnsciousness, and taken away.
