Situation
In a hotel where Kogoro and Conan have an appointment with Kogoro's client, they happen to meet one of Kogoro’s huge fan, Natsumi Sasakawa, whom her dad soon appears to give a proper introduction to Kogoro. Then Kogoro’s client, Ryota Tanno, arrives and begins to discuss with the detectives about the recent threat letter he received.
Meanwhile, Professor Agasa and Haibara are running on a road near the beautiful river when a boat without something to keep it from floating indefinitely catches the attention of the two, prompting Agasa to take a suitable stick to retrieve the boat. However, the content inside the boat is not as peaceful as the scenery…
The initial estimated time of death is between 7:30 and 8:30 am, and with some extra factors, the estimated time is narrowed into from 7:40 and 8:30 am. When Megure, Takagi are questioning Haibara and Agasa about the time before the death of Masato Furubuchi, some people' gossip about him catches the attention of the four, as Haibara comes to ask them about the person Furubuchi argued with.
Haibara makes a call to Conan to ask him if Kogoro's client today is Tanno, and informs him about what just happened. Kogoro after taking the phone and hearing what happened, soon concludes that Tanno fabricates alibis so that he can be out of suspicion.
Kogoro asks Tanno about what he had done before he met Kogoro and Conan in the lobby of the hotel. Tanno says he received room service at 7:30 a.m, which is the beginning of the estimated time of death. Kogoro refutes the statement being alibi for him, as Tanno can easily go out through the window of his room to land on the truck that happened to park under to collect the used tower, even if he lives on the 3rd floor. This gets Conan and the audience to think about what kind of trouble he ran into the last time he went to the building to know the truck’s parking location. Kogoro continues his theory, after Tanno went to the crime scene and did his thing, he returned to his room via climbing the drainpipe at the same time of the puppet clock’s show to avoid any detection.
Tanno admits to using the commute method, but explained that he did it simply to breathe fresh air without being disturbed. Conan also cites Haibara's explanation that it takes an hour to drive from the lake to the hotel, meaning that if Tanno went out to kill Furubuchi, he would only return after 9:30. Kogoro suggests that Tanno must have used a helicopter for the murder, but the boy and Tanno refute this, as there is probably no helipad at the hotel, while Conan states that Haibara and Agasa would notice the helicopter if it were operational.
Suddenly, Natsumi handcuffs both Tanno and Kogoro, creating a hilarious situation for the audience, while Conan can have time to investigate the scene with Agasa and Haibara.
Meanwhile, Megure and Takagi question Aoi Suzueda, another of Furubuchi's students, about what he did before his death. She cites his plan of going fishing at 7 a.m. and returning at 9 a.m. Takagi feels sorry for the loss of her and the other students, she quotes others who said this is a good opportunity to reevaluate their lives, while she also mentions that her master had always treated them unfairly. This leads Conan to ask her what bad things Furubuchi had done.
Conan also asks the old woman owning the fishing equipment why there aren’t any fishing poles displayed outside, to which she answers there is nothing to catch at this time of the year. The boy begins to suspect why Furubuchi was trying to fish when there is practically nothing to catch in the lake. Suddenly, the episode’s forensic officer carries Conan and tells him that he is not supposed to be near the crime scene. Takagi also notes with the forensic officer about the strange flower petals, which certainly didn't come from the lake itself but from somewhere near the river connected to it, following Haibara searching.
Once the investigation is done, the three quickly return to the hotel before the true culprit can escape from custody.
