Situation

Conan, Kogoro, and Ran are in the mountains when they see a hawk, Kogoro disturb the hawk but is stopped by a falconer called Tetsu Akashiba. He yells angrily at him to be careful with hawks. Later, they are at Takehara Cafe, a cafe managed by Genichi Takehara and his wife Satoko, where a festival is being held. They also meet a local farmer called Masahiko Ishima who made puffed rice. The cafe owner later goes hunting boar. The main event of the festival is sending the hawk to a target. When the hawk is arriving to the target, the hawk suddenly falls down and a gunshot is heard. They found Genichi Takehara dead.

When the hawk almost finish the race, it falls to the floor and a gunshot sound is heard. Not long after that, the cafe owner is falling dead onto the floor.

The police arrives and investigates. It seems to be an accident, but is this true? After finding a few clues, Conan discovers the culprit and the trick behind this murder.

Conan tranquilizes Kogoro and reveals that Genichi was murdered, and the culprit is Satoko Takehara. First, she murdered her husband when the puffed rice exploded in the machine to camouflage the sound. Later, she tied a fishing line across the hawk's path from the gunshot trigger to a drum. When the hawk touched the fishing line, the gunshot fired a shell and pierced a fastener. The drum then droppped to the ravine and fell with a wood plank supporting Genichi's body, creating a scene that he was murdered when he fell onto the ground. The supposed Genichi saw by people was also Satoko, who disguised herself as him to make her alibi. The proof is a blood stain in her neck that also matches with a stain in Genichi's neck. She confesses with a creepy face that her husband planned to sell the cafe and leaving not only the cafe, but also her.
