phantomlady1101 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 What do u think??? The question is very famous!!!
Anti-APTX4869 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) lol this is like something i learned from my dad in kindergarten at Korea... Edit: people get tricked by tis easily. Edited May 1, 2011 by Anti-APTX4869
phantomlady1101 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 Lol, It's easy or not!!! I believe it is 1, in Casio 500 MS (calculator) tells is 1 but my teacher said is 9!!!
IdentityUnknown Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Assuming you don't want us to go wacko off into Math (aka. mess it all up), I'll go with my answer. It's easy to be fooled. Order of Operations. PEMDAS
Anti-APTX4869 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 yea it is 9 and oops i clicked wrong one you want to know why it is 9? Well, actually, it is also 1 too. Heres the answer to this trick: 6รท 2(1+2) well, here is the trick. if you write it like that, there's 2 ways to solve them. 6รท(2(1+2)) = 6รท(2(3)) = 6รท6 = 1 or (6รท2)(1+2) = 3(3) = 9 This actually depends on how you look at the problem. PEMDAS Parenthesis Exponent Multiplication Division Addition Subtraction
IdentityUnknown Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Lol, It's easy or not!!! I believe it is 1, in Casio 500 MS (calculator) tells is 1 but my teacher said is 9!!! I'm pretty sure that it's 1. Maybe your teacher got the Order of Operations (PEMDAS) wrong.
IdentityUnknown Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 yea it is 9 and oops i clicked wrong one you want to know why it is 9? Sure. Tell me where I made my stupid mistake. As usual. EDIT: GAH!!! Sorry for the double post.
IdentityUnknown Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Oh! Gah, wait! Stupid me. I know how now. Baka, baka, baka.
phantomlady1101 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 My teacher said: 6รท2(1+2)= 6รท2x3= 3x3 = 9 But my friends and me: 6รท2(1+2)= 6รท(2*3)= 1
phantomlady1101 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 ah you said it befor i edit. oh well. But my calculator told it is 1!!!!!!!!!! It can't be wrong!!!!!
phantomlady1101 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 But my calculator told it is 1!!!!!!!!!! It can't be wrong!!!!! You can try!!!
IdentityUnknown Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 But my calculator told it is 1!!!!!!!!!! It can't be wrong!!!!! You can try!!! Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up here. Why are you contradicting yourself? O.o
phantomlady1101 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up here. Why are you contradicting yourself? O.o What??? My opinion is 1!!!!
IdentityUnknown Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 What??? My opinion is 1!!!! The thing is, the number 2 was never in the brackets. There was never an obligation to multiply it first. So the equation would be: 6รท2(1+2) <-Beginning Equation 6รท2(3) <-This is where you started going off track 6รท2x3 <-Since there is no obligation to put 3 in brackets anymore, we can take them out so it makes more sense 3x3 9 <-Final Answer I hope that makes more sense.

You can ask Google!!! It's tells 9 but when it follows gcalctool 5.32.0 it will be 1!!! (I don't know what is it, my friends on Facebook said that)
phantomlady1101 Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 My dad just got home, I ask him, he said: 6 ___________ 2(1+2)
Anti-APTX4869 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Like I said, both ways are correct. It's just that there's 2 ways to look at it. ...6 ----- 2(1+2) or 6 --(1+2) 2
IdentityUnknown Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 *is utterly confused now* I'll pretend I have some idea of what you guys are talking about.
Misaki-chan Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Why exactly is there mixed answers? I think the answer's nine.
ikg Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 6/2(1+2) = ? I think 6/2 = 3 and 1+2 = 3 so, 3*3 = 9 But my friend said 2(1+2)= 6 and 6/6 = 1 This question has two solutions ? However, I think the best answer is 1.
dreznovk Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Always perform what in '()' first --> 1+2=3 We have : 6 / 2 * 3 If we have both division and multiplication, we do it from left to right: 6 / 2 = 3 Then 3 * 3 = 9 The answer is 9, is it right ?
