geez! follow PEMDAS! it should be

6/2(1+2)

6/2(3)

6/6=1 :)

i didn't mean to get mad coz' i got a not-so-good cold here :(

PEMDAS never said that numbers outside of brackets have to be multiplied by the numbers inside of brackets right away. In fact, it'd be easier if instead you took the number 3 OUT of the bracket, since that'd be easier to look at. The equation would be:

6÷2(1+2)

6÷2x3

3x3

9

6/2*3=6/6=1 --> WRONG

6/2*3=3*3=9 --> RIGHT

PEMDAS said when you have a bunch of operations of the same rank, you just operate from left to right (multiplication and division are at the same rank)

I personally think the best answer is 9. You can't change the order in which you do things.

You have to go from left to right, follow PEMDAS, etc.

If you do that, 9 will turn out.

PEMDAS, PEMDAS, PEMDAS,... Why don't u use your calculator, Casio fx-500MS etc.???

Don't stop my blood

I say the answer is one. I shall type it into my graphing calculator to check. But if you look at it like this...

6

''''''''''

2(2+1)

That's how I solved it. Because... I don't know. It's just my instinct.

It's 9

look

6/2(1+2)

6/2(3)

then you do division not multiplication becuase division comes first in BIDMAS

so 3(3)

and 3x3=9 simple >_>

Yeah, changed my mind. I can't do math while half asleep, I discovered that when my mom gave me geometric proofs at 7:00 A.M. in the morning. I usually try to sleep until about 10:00 P.M. And what the heck is BIMDAS? I leaned PEMDAS. But, it actually depends on how it's written, because in my previous thing, I was technically correct. Ack, my mom's waking up. See you.

BIDMAS is what we use in UK I learn it as that. Is PEDMAS what you(s) use where abouts you are?

P.S. the B means Brackets

and the I means indicies

For the non-UK people this is what BIDMAS stands for:

Brackets

Indices (basically Powers, but that would be unpronouncable  )

Division

Multiplication

Addition

Subtraction

Also, I heard somewhere that Americans do 1 billion not as 1,000,000,000 but as something different, is this true?

EDIT: I forgot to put my answer, I got 1

Nope, we do 1,000,000,000. PEMDASLR is:

Parenthesis

Exponents

Multiplication

Division

Addition

Subtraction

Left->Right

But as I said, it kind of depends on how it's written.

Me and my calculator say 9...

Yeah, changed my mind because now I am awake! (and not completely distracted by my MitsuAi drawing!) But now I'm tired again... (I stay 'awake' for maybe an hour or two a day. Otherwise, I'm either sleeping or tired.)

There is a trick. The equation itself 6÷2(1+2) is also 6/2(1+2)

It can be either

...6

-----

2(1+2)

or

6

--(1+2)

2

^^^^This

The calculator read it either one of those

My (laptop's) calculator worked it as 2, I think it's 'cause it tries to work the question out as it goes along and so doesn't factor in the fact that brackets come first. I haven't tried it on my normal calculator yet, though when I just did it in my head I got 1.

oohh.. I was fooled here I thought it is 1 because I thought the bracket indicates multiplication..

O.O
