It was a one-off special. Possibly it was also made to see if there'd be any interest in a Magic Kaito series, but apparently there's not, because we would have heard something by now. I get the feeling Kaitou Kid isn't as huge as people think he is. It's just that his fans are very loud and like to make themselves known, which makes it seem like he's huge over there. Otherwise, we'd have heard a ton more about him. The amount of fanfiction and fanart he has doesn't prove anything.
