Conan, Kogoro and Ran are in the mountains when they see a hawk, Kogoro disturb the hawk but is stopped by a falconer called Tetsu Akashiba. He yells angrily at him to be careful with hawks. Later, they are at Takehara Cafe, a cafe managed by Genichi Takehara and his wife Satoko, where a festival is being held. They also meet a local farmer called Masahiko Ishima who made puffed rice. The cafe owner later goes hunting boar. The main event of the festival is sending the hawk to a target. When the hawk is arriving to the target, the hawk suddenly falls down and a gunshot is heard. They found Genichi Takehara dead.

When the hawk almost finish the race, it falls to the floor and a gunshot sound is heard. Not long after that, the cafe owner is falling dead onto the floor.

The police arrives and investigates. It seems to be an accident, but is this true? After finding a few clues, Conan discovers the culprit and the trick behind this murder.
