Part 1
Kogoro took his kids to the Birdman Rally held at Hikone, where Beika University will be participating in the manual division for the first time in ten years. Heiji also took Kazuha there as they never miss this yearly event.
Two of the Beika University members come to say hi to Kogoro–Aero Quest airframe designer Yuma Masaki, and Aero Quest pilot Sho Ishizumi. The event kicks off as Beika University members are making final adjustments to the Aero Quest, while Yuma has to get something he left on the school bus–where he gets knocked out, dragged away, and shoved in a vehicle.
Moments later, Ran and Kazuha spot Yuma’s younger sister Rin looking for him, so they decide to search for him. Eventually, the tablet Yuma never goes without is found under the school bus, to which Conan and Heiji also find the traces left from the kidnapping. Rin has to leave early because it’s almost Aero Quest’s turn to compete; and Conan entrusts her with one of his detective badges, saying it was a lucky charm for Ishizumi.
At the end of the kidnapping traces is an empty slot of the parking lot, so while Ran and Kazuha return to their seats, Heiji and Conan inquire the security guard about the car that used to park at the said slot. The guard recognizes the vehicle, and remembers a valuable detail about its driver: A young man wearing a bracelet engraved with the word “shita”–reminding Conan of a serial robber gang. Conan then calls Megure to ask him about the case.
With all the details about the case, Conan chooses to keep an eye on Ishizumi while Heiji chooses to look for Riku’s whereabouts by asking people in the area.
Meanwhile, Megure receives information from Takagi about discovering the dangerous purchase Riku made on a dark web–a bomb that comes with a transmitter, and a relay device. He deduces that the bomb becomes active by starting the transmitter, and explodes when it stops receiving signal from that transmitter, but couldn’t figure out why Riku needs a relay device. Still, he informs Kogoro of this.
Conan, on the other hand, manages to confirm Riku's presence with pictures taken by a writer. More importantly, he was shown in one of the pictures to be in a Beika University uniform, suggesting he must have infiltrated the group for no good–like how is he supposed to get in legitimately? Just then, Kogoro reaches out to Conan to convey what Megure told him previously, from which the purpose of the relay device is clear: Increasing the distance in which the bomb receives signal from the transmitter.
At the same time, Heiji is walking toward Hikone Castle following the answers of another security guard about where Riku’s vehicle went–the location turns out to be where Riku rented the van. Moments later, Heiji sees a van on an empty lot and is able to confirm it was the one seen by the security guards when he notices an article praising Yuma and Ishizumi. Coincidentally, he finds an abandoned warehouse close to where he found the van, so he decides to investigate inside the building. There, he finds Yuma tied up in a room under the basement with a bomb nearby. He tries to break the door, only to cause the floor to collapse, rendering him unconscious.

- Real-life TV announcer Shinichi Hatori (羽鳥 慎一) voiced the announcer in both episodes, although the announcer is never shown in person[1].
- This is the first case to take place in Shiga Prefecture. Notable real-life locations shown include Hikone Castle.
