Resolution
Conan sneaks into Hirota's apartment and attempts to stop her from meeting the assailants. Ignoring Conan's warning, Hirota incapacitates Conan but doesn't knock him out, and after apologizing she heads off. Conan shoots one of his sensors towards Hirota's car and manages to get it stuck there, then follows her as fast as it's possible in his skateboard.
Almost at the end of the day, Hirota is face to face with Gin and Vodka. She asks them why did they kill the other two, and they tell her that's just how the Organization rolls. Then she asks Gin to release her little sister in exchange for the 1 billion yen she stole from the bank, betting on how they can't kill her because they won't get the money otherwise. Gin however shoots her fatally before she can do the same to him, and Vodka takes the keys to a coin locker containing the money from the robbery.

When Conan finally reached Akemi, it's almost too late and with her last breath, she told him the location that she hide the stolen money and some vital information about Black Organization.

Conan arrives at the warehouse shortly after and finds a fatally wounded Akemi, who reveals to him the existence of the crime syndicate Black Organization and gives him another key, the real one belonging to the locker where she actually hid the billion yen. She then dies in Conan's arms, apologizing for everything and taking his secret with her. Conan somberly calls the police, who arrive and rule Akemi's death as a suicide since the killing weapon has only her fingerprints; Conan says nothing to disuade them, and soon they find the stolen money. As Ran tearfully hugs Conan and Kogoro and Megure handle the rest, Conan promises to himself that he will take down the Black Organization.
Note
The manga version of The Strange Person Hunt Murder Case ended with Akemi Miyano encountering and being fatally wounded by Gin, then being found by Ran and Conan, and finally dying in Conan's arms. The anime version altered the outcome so that Masami Hirota would live and work at a bank leading to episode 128 (as well as replacing Gin and Vodka with an episode exclusive character named Okita).
Due to the story being important to the continuity (such as leading up to Ai Haibara's appearance) this episode was made to fix the storyline, with the murder scene proper being relatively similar to the original one save for three details: Ran not being present until after Akemi dies, the ommision of Shiho Miyano's silhouette appearance when Akemi brings up her sister, and the blood on the scene being severely censored.
Trivia
- Gin can be obviously seen using his right hand to fire the gun. Every other time Gin had used his left hand. It is assumed this was just a discontinuity, and does not suggest the fact that Gin is ambidextrous.
- This is the first episode where Officer Tome is referred to by name.
