While Shota Nakano tries to talk to his mother about the marriage, Hiromu Shibuya volunteers to escort Mayu Tojo to her home. He does so to have an opportunity to convince her to be with him again. His intention is unsuccessful as his reaction toward Shota's call to make sure Mayu was safe just makes her believe her ex planned to murder her. She tries to get away from him and, when she almost reaches the top of the nearby stairs, runs into Mamoru Yanagi. He asks her if she was okay, to which she reassures him yes and looks behind.

Shota comes to the rescue!

Unbeknownst to her, he was the one behind recent attempts to murder her. Just when Yanagi is about to push Mayu off stairs, Conan, Ran, and Kogoro come to their location in time to help; Shota also comes in time to save her when she falls off by accident while Kogoro and Ran subdue the culprit.

When asked about the reason, Yanagi says he wants to make Yoshi Nakano happy by taking the life of what she appears to perceive as her thorn in the eyes. However, Yoshi shows up and tells him off that she does not need anybody to decide her emotion.

Aftermath

The reason Yoshi knew a truck almost hit Mayu is because she was at a bridal shop nearby when the incident occurred. Moreover, the reason she has been losing weight recently is because she has been preparing herself for her own marriage.
