Part 1

Kogoro takes Conan and Ran to the Birdman Rally at Hikone. Heiji also takes Kazuha to the event and meets the Mouris, so they decide to spectate the event together.

The great detective is recognized by some team members of Beika University “Aero Space”, whom he then talks to: Airframe designer Yuma Masaki, and pilot Sho Ishizumi.

The manual propeller division of the Birdman Rally kicks off, and the Aero Space is making final adjustments prior to their run. While Ishizumi helps his team members, Yuma goes to get something he forgot from the university bus – where he gets knocked out, dragged away, and shoved in a vehicle.

Conan and Heiji asks the security guard about a car that left earlier. As soon as Conan hears about the bracelet the driver of the van was wearing, he recognizes it from a serial robbery case.

Moments later, the disappearance catches the attention of Ran and Kazuha when they spot Yuma’s sister Rin looking worried, then Conan and Heiji when the girls find the tablet Yuma never goes without. While the girls return to the competition since it’s almost Aero Space’s turn, the boys inquire with the parking lot security guard about the car that got away from the end of the trail. The guard remembers that the driver was a man wearing a bracelet engraved with the word "shita", which Conan associates with members of a gang responsible for a serial robbery. He then calls Megure to ask him about that case.

Serial robbery (past)

Time: At-least three years ago

Culprits: Ryu Momochi (deceased) and his accomplices (serving sentences)

Three years ago, Ryu Momochi and his gang were pursued by the police after failing to rob a bank, and resorted to splitting up. They were eventually caught and are currently serving sentences, but Ryu died one year ago due to illness. It is worth noting that Ryu was caught by Sho Ishizumi and Yuma Masaki when they collided, and that Ryu has a brother who likes to wear the gang's identification bracelet despite not being part of the robbers.

The boys then split up – Conan will keep an eye on Ishizumi since he can be the next target while Heiji is going to talk with the people in the area.

Hostage situation

In the basement of an abandoned building, Heiji discovers a locked room where Yuma is tied up with a bomb nearby.

Heiji talks to another security guard of the event if he saw a car ridden by Riku, to which he recalls it was a rental car going toward Hikone Castle. Moments later, he finds the said car on an empty lot near an abandoned warehouse, which he then goes in to investigate. Under the basement, he finds Yuma tied up in a room with a bomb nearby, so he tries to break in. Suddenly, the floor of the building collapses, causing Heiji to be unconscious.
