The proof is a button from his jacket that was found in the toilet drain. His motive was that Tomoya indirectly caused his sister Akiho die after she saw a murder and was chased by the murderer. She was running to a police box, but there was no one there since the police was with Tomoya, who called them only because he saw a suspicious man outside his house. Aftermath, Akiho was also murdered, and Hajime, after hearing Tomoya's story, decide to revenge, so he killed Tomoya. It is revealed that Shin Kotani also wanted to murder Tomoya with the same method as Hajime's because he caused him to be fired from his work, but he refused to do it and decided to stay calm in the restaurant.
