Basically cleverbot is basing its responses off of an algorithm that searches for a proper response from its databases of past conversations. You know what its like? A less awesome version of the conversation held in the Doctor Who episode "Blink," because cleverbot can and does fail in its canned responses, where as Blink the responses are perfect because the Doctor had everything from the future.
