  2. Conan could only stare at his watch in barely concealed horror as the hour hand shifted to point at the number 5. "Oi, Conan-kun," Subaru called, waving a hand before him. "Conan-kun?" Suddenly he tore his gaze from the face of his watch. "Ah-le-le?" he cried, running off. "It's late. I have to go." If he had looked back, Conan would have seen the bespectacled college student studying him. An intriguing child, he thought. Conan thought only of saving Ran as he hurried to the security control room. When he told the guard on duty that he was looking for video footage of a missing person, the stocky man instantly complied with his request. He was vaguely aware of a third person in the room, sitting in repose on a rolling chair half hidden by shadow. Only occasionally did he sense movement from this figure, and it usually occured in synch with his own motion. When Ran appeared on the screen of the bookstore's recording, Conan tensed, preparing his mind to identify his friend's abductor. Only if he had known beforehand who had taken her would he have been ready to see what happened next. A lanky teen in a Teitan High Summer Uniform entered the store, attracting Ran's attention immediately. As she glanced his way inconspicuously, the boy stared straight into the camera and grinned. Conan knew that smile: It was one he'd seen many times in the mirror. It was his own. Only after a few moments of panic did he calm himself. He felt reassured that he knew his enemy. Kaito Kid, he realized. That's why you were observing me. With a smile, a boy in a t- shirt and jeans stepped out of the darkness. "I know enough about that detective's situation to deduce that this is not Kudo, but the one I seek," he said, his heavy accent identifying him immediately. Hakuba Saguru smiled at Conan and whispered, "I believe we are after the same thing at the moment, Tantei-san?" After pinching the boy -much to Hakuba's dismay- to ensure that he was not in fact Kaito Kid, Conan replied, "Yes." Then the two embarked on their case. The security guard watched them go, confused. He almost thought he'd recognized the young boy, but dismissed the notion as ridiculous.

  8. +1 Romance doesn't adapt itself very well to the long-running nature of DC, which is why it's now mostly annoying, ridiculous or both at the same time.

  9. He's had failures. Getting shot on the rooftop by Conan was a minor one, because he failed to consider Sherry had an assistant, which is the most likely rational explanation for how Sherry escaped the cell in the first place. From Gin's perspective, Vodka had to hold off the mysterious guy (Shinichi) because neither Org member had any idea of how many shots he had. Then of course there was Akai's hello in Org vs. FBI. Gin ran away from that fight. Akai's fake death is going to be a serious blunder on his part, regardless of who you think Akai is at the moment. The Black Org as a whole has the exact opposite problem of the one you claim them to have. They get their arses handed to them most times they appear and basically Gosho has to work overtime to make them not appear weak. Black Org failures include: their bombs stopped, they lost their 10 billion yen, Sherry escapes and Gin and Vodka can't do anything about it because Gin has to take out Pisco who got caught, they don't get any data from Itakura's CD, Vermouth gets messed up and almost captured and Calvados commits suicide, the boss's number gets uncovered, their assassination gets thwarted, Kir gets captured, and Gin acquires some internal bleeding courtesy of Akai, their agent who finds Kir has to commit suicide, and Akai, Kir, and Conan basically completely manipulate them with their plan to return Rena and fake Akai's death. You could complain the situations they get in always allow a somewhat dignified path of retreat that preserves some of their appearance of danger, but the truth is they fail. A lot. I don't think money is the primary reason why Gosho is continuing. He is a well regarded writer; if he was truly burned out or out of ideas, he could write something else and still get a good contract. He said in an interview that it's especially hard to write the BO chapters. They are even more work because they are going to be microanalyzed by the readers too, so no mistakes or contradictions with prior or future material are acceptable. By dealing with the BO in chunks at a time (which naturally means they are going to be spaced out) rather than evenly spread, he is setting up the structure of the plot so that it is less likely to run into problems. Dealing with the BO in chunks also means that he has more "free" cases that he doesn't have to force into the overarching plotline which gives him extra flexibility to use a greater variety of tricks and settings. Personally I like it when more of the weekly cases tie in with the greater plot, but I can understand why it is easier to write when you aren't forcing a case. I agree that it's always been about the weekly cases from the start, not the BO; however saying that "He wants to end the BO stuff." makes no sense. It's the overarching plotline that ties together the series. Getting rid of it destroys the direction of the series: Conan defeating the guys who shrunk him so he can get his body back and return to the light with a better personality. I think the root of the problem here is that plot cases have been a lot more spaced out in the Bourbon arc than they have been since the start of the Vermouth arc, and people don't like that.

  10. There was no reason for the BO to play act shooting Kogoro. If we start with the assumption the Black Org was pretending to try to kill Kogoro, their boss, in order to fool the FBI into thinking he was unrelated to them, then it would be weird for them not to follow through with the murder. It would create more suspicion than it is worth to fail in front of the FBI (even if they didn't know Akai was watching), especially since it's possible the FBI might try to shelter Kogoro or watch him in order to protect him or something like that. Also Ai has met with Kogoro (first that comes to mind is the "Hunted Kogoro case" just before Red vs Black) and has had no "Black org reaction." Also if the boss was Kogoro, he should be really intelligent. That means he should have caught on to Conan's and Ai's situation, yet isn't helping the Black Org find them which doesn't make any sense, a la reasons why Agasa isn't the boss.

  15. Ok... here are my thoughts on this whole thing... *sets up barricades for angry fangirls/boys* Both Kaitou Kid and Kudo Shinichi are overrated. (they are practically the same character only opposite sides of the law) There is a reason for this... THEY ARE BOTH PERFECT. They are both the main protagonists of Gosho Aoyama's works. Gosho made very few faults for each character (less so for Kudo... I mean... does he really have a debilitating flaw like Kaitou does?). They are both geniuses, can think much further ahead than their adversaries, can predict outcomes and trick their foes. Allow me to run through this real quick for both, and then I'll explain why they are both overrated when compared to literature... (by quick I mean as quick as I can) Lets start on topic with Kaitou Kid... He was the main protagonist of MK turned antagonist for DC. He was perfect in MK, so Gosho couldn't very well add in flaws, because he can't flesh them out (though he never did give the explanation for the fear of fish... perhaps one day). He is arrogant, a master of disguise, EXTREMELY intelligent (possibly more so than Kudo, and I'll explain why) and is a master of Magic. These things combine make him a very effective (and slightly boring thief after a while). He can memorize a lot of information very easily in a short period of time, including numbers, personal information, mannerisms, voice and building layouts. Basically he has an eidetic memory, something Kudo does not have. He can plan and even deduce slightly (though not as good as Kudo). He is shown to be extremely good at school without even thinking about it (aoko too for that matter). When it comes to adversaries (and this is where it gets boring) Gosho does NOT want one of his original characters to lose. This includes against Kudo. He has a tragic back story, and though he is a criminal you are meant to empathize with him. He isn't out for monetary gain, he has his father's estate. That is why he returns all jewels he steals if it isn't the Pandora jewel. However Kudo can't lose either, so Kid gets away and Kudo ends up getting the jewel. (Again boring)(Also I think Gosho doesn't want either of his creations to lose) Aside from fish (which no one seems to know about) he has no discernible flaws. This makes for very boring characters. His arrogance is his biggest flaw and that usually works out. Jii is a professional so he isn't much of a liability aside from age. And he doesn't have any other partners. The character he is based on is much more interesting in this respect, which is Arsene Lupin. Lupin has no experienced colleagues, and has to woo girls into helping. They are inexperienced and his care for them are usually his downfall. Women are his weakness. Since they are also an integral part to his thievery, it is BIG (so not like Aoko or fish, because those don't impact him as much as slightly inconvenience him). Kid also has no worth adversary other than Hakuba (who is never around) and Kudo who is now always around because they are melded together. Nakamori, the main force is not up to snuff. Even Lupin III has a better constant antagonist in the form of Zenigata. He is not incapable, and he often is able to corner Lupin III if not for the last minute intervention of Jigen, Fujiko or Goemon. Arsene Lupin has Ganimard who CONSTANTLY corners or captures Lupin only for him to trick his way out or escape by slipping cuffs or other method. He is an uninteresting mary sue-esque character... Too perfect, not enough flaws and not interesting enough. Now on to Kudo... HE IS THE EXACT SAME! Except swap out magic and eidetic memory for deductive ability and overall strange compilation of academic and scientific knowledge (oh yeah, and thanks to Agasa and his Mother that INCLUDES disguising, with the exception of mimicking dialect). He has no flaws except his arrogance (which should have killed him at least 3 times to my memory). Granted his arrogance is EXTREME, but still he has no worthy adversary other than the BO. They barely show up, so he basically has no one. And the BO he has the FBI backing him. They are a big adversary who can provide a challenge, but THEY ARE BARELY AROUND! Kudo has no other weakness other than his stature which isn't a weakness anymore thanks to Agasa's inventions. He can kick objects stronger than he probably was able to before, has tracking glasses, a skateboard that goes as fast as a car (he isn't yet old enough to get a license in Japan). Hell he seems to have overall less flaws than he did before. He only has three liabilities... And honestly if they follow him to the BO he should let them die... They'd deserve it, and so would he for getting them involved with such a dangerous case (and not being able to trick them into going elsewhere). Again overall boring. Every single detective had flaws in the past. Sherlock had the same set-up, but the difference was that the mysteries often actually was able to test him (though Sherlock was an addict and slightly crazy). He was also limited because he often didn't have free reign from the police as they were always getting involved, often resenting him, where as Kudo is LOVED by the MPD (even as conan to a degree). Now I know this is a family comic/show, but Gosho should have put more effort into making complex and believable characters. He has developed the cast around the main characters except for Kudo and Ran (of those who appear enough to develop). IT IS INFURIATING. They are both overrated and have better counterparts in literature or other shows. They are not dynamic, interesting or even evolving. And unlike Holmes he does not have fantastic writing to back him (and some interesting peculiarities that Kudo does not). Gosho is good, but not SACD good. Honestly what keeps me coming back to DC is the side characters, not the main (well that and the mysteries, which have their ups and downs. Some are fantastic other are dismal but you can't win them all). Usually its the characters that keeps me interested in a story for the most part (well it has to be a balance between good characters and good story). DC is the ONLY one where it is the side characters and mystery. Thank you for reading this overly long post And I really hope I don't get flamed or attacked for it.... *reinforces barricades* @Waka: They explained that Sharon Vineyard was better at mimicking voices than Yukiko was. Yukiko could adeptly change her voice, and make it sound different for characters, but not mimic another person entirely. Basically... Sharon can completely take on the identity of someone else, where as Yukiko can only create a new persona (which for the purposes of acting is all you need).

  16. Dear GUYS OF THE WORLD, WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GIRLS: The most important and most private part of a girl is NOT her body BUT her HEART. She can give you all the kisses you want, all the hugs you want, and even climb into bed with you, but if she doesn't give her heart to you, you haven't won her yet. IF SHE EVER GAVE HER HEART TO YOU, TREASURE IT!!!!! If you don't, and BREAK HER HEART instead, You would have done something IRREPARABLE! Understand that. Thanks. Sincerely, Me, and girls of the world who thinks this way

  18. Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot did not age, yet they were the 2 main characters of one of the best known mystery writers of all time. Obviously, Gosho isn't Agatha Christie but saying the mystery genre has to have ageing characters in order to avoid a serious problem isn't a valid point. By the way, there has only been 2 Valentines (episode 6 was a filler). As for the seasons, of course they change since Gosho basically draws what's outside his window. However the characters don't age because it they did the whole purpose of Conan going back to his teenage body would be defied. How would the characters having grown 1 or 2 years in a 17 year span be less 'problematic' anyway ? All in all, forget the timeline.

  22. I had to rewrite it cuz my computer messed up when I tried to post it, but here's part four. (Hopefully still ok) Conan watched the sky, so much grayer than it had been in the morning, as the dove drew further away, thinking. Why are you interested in the case? he asked himself as the sense of being observed abated. Then he turned back to the Detective Boys, who were whispering amongst themselves. He couldn't hear everything, but Ayumi said at some point, "But what about Ai-chan?" Now Conan understood why he had felt so strongly that he was being followed. He mentally kicked himself for not realizing she was there. Had it been the Organization, Conan had no doubt he'd be dead already. "You brought Haibara, didn't you?" Although hesitant to answer, when Conan explained Ran's situation, they muttered, "Hai." He watched as Ayumi skipped around the righthand corner of the alleyway they stood in, calling, "Ai-chan, you can come out now! Ai-chan..." Moments later she returned, her eyes tearing up. "Ai-chan isn't here!" she whimpered. Conan stood frozen, staring at the ground. Vermouth? he thought. No, Haibara would have felt her presence and come out of hiding. Unless she decided to give herself up to protect them...He gazed at the Detective Boys for a moment, then back at his shoes. No. He would never let himself believe that. "I'm sure she's with Ran," he said, as much to convince himself as his friends. "Alright," Mitsuhiko and the others shouted, wearing ridiculously determined expressions. "Shounen tantei-dan are on the case!" With that they ran off in the direction of Agasa's house, and Conan watched them go with an amused half-smile. He was glad; Agasa would keep them out of danger, and as long as Haibara was with Ran, she was safe... for now. Ran, he thought. Wait for me. I'll be there by 9... Conan frowned and sprinted to Mouri-san's house, retrieving his skateboard, which he rode to the Haido City Shopping Mall. Hopping of the board, he jogged inside, heading straight to the bookshop where Ran was last seen. Conan went straight to the mystery section, scanning the shelves for, "The Hound of the Baskervilles," which he had asked Ran for from Shinichi's phone. His prized copy was still in Osaka after a case, and Hattori refused to return it unless Conan declared him a better detective. When he'd found the stack of novels, he studied each one, searching for a hidden clue or message from Ran. At the prickling between his shoulderblades, he glanced to eachside, but saw only a college-aged man in a gray jacket looking through the Agatha Christie novels. The man with red-brown hair and rectangular glasses shifted his stance as he examined a copy of "Death on the Nile. Conan stammered, "S-Subaru-san?" Okiya turned at the mention of his name, frowning as he saw who it was that had spoken to him. "Conan-kun? Shouldn't you be home eating dinner?" he asked. Dinner? His gaze flickered to his watch; 5:53. Damn! Only three hours left!"

  23. Conan was terrified as the hands covered his eyes, and jerked his head to tear away from the person's grip. Then he heard a lilting, high pitched call of, "Guess who, Conan-kun?" He recognized the voice at once as Ayumi's, and turned to see three children standing behind him. "Mitsuhiko, Ayumi, Genta, were you guys following me the whole time?" he shouted. The detective boys shook their heads vigorously, exclaiming, "Of course not!" in unison. "How could you even suspect us of such a thing?" Mitsuhiko wailed dramatically, his palm on his heart in feigned surprise. Conan frowned, muttering, "Oi, oi," and sighed. "You can't pretend to have just seen me here. The fresh mud on your pants has almost reached your knees, meaning that you were running through muddy puddles and splashed it on your clothes. Also, there are wet spots on your sleeves and the front of your shirts. Evidently, you all ran through someone's sprinklers while following me." Ayumi shook her head, insisting that he didn't have proof. Conan smirked, "Very well then," and began to explain. "Genta, you have rice on your face, but not your hands. Considering the mud, I'd say you were waiting at the Cafe Poirot for me to return, and either didn't see me enter the agency or decided not to bother me." Considering the Detective Boys' nature, he added, "Or wanted to get in on whatever case you assumed I was working on. Regardless of the reason, you then followed me as I left Mouri-san's agency and made my way through the city to where I am now. Either you feared that I would discover you first, as I had already looked around several times, or you just wanted to surprise me, and so Ayumi came up to me. Did I miss anything?" His friends shook their heads, and Ayumi proclaimed, "Subarashii, Conan-kun!" The other two hung their heads, sighing. "Well, we got curious when we heard you asking about Ran-neesan," Mitsuhiko admitted. "Eh? But that wasn't until you'd been following me for almost twenty minutes!" Before he got a reply, Conan heard a strange sound, like the fluttering of wings, and swept his gaze up to see a dove flapping away. It was almost out of sight as it rode the breeze past the buildings to their right. He thought about the bird, smiling to himself. Can I count on your help? he thought. Or are you watching me for a different reason?

  24. Once Conan caught up with Kogoro, he was filled in on what had happened. (Only because he was whining about where 'Ran-neechan' was.) Mouri-san sighed, then began to speak in a determined voice. "Ran went to the mall with her friend, Suzuki-san. They went to get a parfait, and Ran looked distracted. She said she was just worried about that detective brat Kudo. Later she was looking at a Holmes book he'd told her about, and Suzuki went to the toilet. When she returned, Ran wasn't there, and the bookstore owner said she'd walked out with a man in a winter coat. Ran wasn't anywhere in the mall after that, and the girl called me when she couldn't find her. "She's not answering her cell phone either," he added as Conan began to ask. The two then ran silently to the detective agency, hoping that maybe she had returned home. "She's not here either," Conan announced as he finished searching the second floor. Afterwards he put his coat back on and jogged to Teitan High School to see if she had come by, but none of the karate club members or other students had seen her since class. As he searched the entire area for clues as to her location, Conan decided that perhaps the note he'd recieved wasn't a hoax. "The time limit bfore I destroy it is 9:00," the second letter had said. Feeling the tingling sensation of being watched, he surveyed his surroundings, but there was nowhere a person could hide, and he leaned against the wall he stood beside, sighing. Conan began to list in his mind the possible people with grudges against him. There were all the people he'd sent to jail before being shrunk, girls he'd ignored, and people like Ran's father who disliked him on principle, but no one he could see threatening Ran's life. Especially the ones who actually had a reason to hate him, as they were all imprisoned. Even so, Conan went to the nearest library and looked up all the news stories within the past three weeks, and found that not a single inmate had escaped or been released. Why did Ran willingly leave with the man? he asked himself. Was she kidnapped by him, or did something else happen? And if she's alright, then why wouldn't she answer her phone? Deep in thought, Conan walked along the sidewalk, headed to the mall where Ran was last seen to search for clues. In fact, he was so busy with the case that he didn't notice three people following him closely until two warm hands clamped over his eyes.
