Interview in Conan Drill from 2003 translated! No spoiler on the plot here, though there are a lot of interesting tidbits. Note: I took a lot of liberty with the English this time, since I wanted to focus more on making the English sound natural and readable. I usually try to translate as directly as possible, but I realize that the weird English probably turns off a lot of people – let me know if I've taken too much liberty, though. Also, Gosho says a lot of things here that he mentions in future interviews, like how he was told to change Conan's name to Doyle since there was a work called Future Boy Conan, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. You kinda realize that interviewers keep asking the same questions, maybe because they don't bother looking over past interviews, ha ha. Highlights: The plot for conan was planned in two weeks Gosho is not "high-strung / neurotic" - he seems pretty laid back Apparently, in File 125~, the dude pays the gal to be his lover Gosho has an editor who is from Kansai, and looks at DC's Kansai-ben – this makes sense, I've read people on 2chan talk about how young Kansai people these days don't say "ame-chan" (Files 778-780), but since Gosho gets coached on Kansai-ben by an older guy, the Kansai-ben in DC is rather dated. Gosho has two younger brothers, one who's an engineer and another who's a doctor. The engineer helps Gosho with tricks related to cars, and the doctor helps Gosho with medicine-related topics, like APTX. The doctor is also an anime otaku who advices Gosho about which voice actor should voice whom. Gosho also seems to have connections who are former police detectives, people working at banks, CSIs, etc. Gosho decided when he started that Conan won't cry Gosho only draws characters with names, leave backgrounds and characters without names to assistants - does that mean that the forensics dude who wasn't Tomo-san in File 756-758 will become important someday?! Lol I dunno. Maybe you guys knew this already, but apparently Paikaru/Baiganer isn't a real brand of alcohol – the name comes from a character in Lupin III.

Chapters 700-704 Not a complete theory but several deductions based on these chapters. Informations about Bourbon First, something to be very careful about: through the Black Organization, Aoyama gives the reader several clues about Bourbon. These clues are accurate and will likely be an important part in the resolution of the Bourbon arc. The reader learns two clues: -Bourbon hates Akai more than Gin does. -Bourbon is a detective, a modern-day version of Sherlock Holmes. Even though these clues are accurate, they are likely to be used to mislead the reader during those chapters. The reader sees what Aoyama wants him to see, but the truth is out there. It's important to note that Conan is the detective of the story and that he has no knowledge of these informations. Bourbon's appearance It's important to note that, unlike Vermouth, Bourbon has never made an appearance as himself. That's because Vermouth is a master of disguise and thus knowing her true face won't help the reader to discover who she is during her arc. Does that mean that Scar Akai, who also wears a mask, isn't Bourbon ? No, that's not proof because on the three suspects, Scar Akai is the only one who clearly wears a mask. If Bourbon shows his "true face", then that would logically mean that Subaru and Masumi are innocents. So, even if Scar Akai is Bourbon, Aoyama can't show his true appearance to the reader. Conan and Akai Conan is likely to know that Shuichi is still alive, but does he know what happened to him since the moment he faked his death ? We have the response during this chapter: Conan doesn't know (which is normal because he's the detective, he isn't supposed to have the answers. Proof: Conan tries to save Scar Akai from the Black Organization. If Conan knew what happened to Akai, he would have already deduced that Scar Akai is Bourbon. The reader knows that Bourbon doesn't get along with Gin, but Conan doesn't. So, Conan has no reason to think that Bourbon can be killed by his BO comrades. Despite that, Conan tries to prevent Scar Akai's murder from the BO. So Conan wonders if Scar Akai is not the real one, thus proving that he doesn't know what happened to the real Akai. Deduction: Conan doesn't know what happened to Akai after his supposed death and he has yet to discover it. The phone trick This is maybe the more important element. At the end of the case, it seems like Scar Akai is the one who sent the deductions to Kogoro Mouri. According to the informations we've recently learned about Bourbon, we are naturally led to believe that Scar Akai is a detective and that he's Bourbon. Still, there are some strange elements: -The handkerchief. -The incomplete deductions. In fact, by combining these two elements, we have the proof that Scar Akai is very unlikely to be the one who sent the mail. Proof: The handkerchief At first, it appears that Scar Akai uses the handkerchief to avoid leaving his fingerprints on the cell-phone he uses to send the mail to Mouri. But, by thinking a little more, isn't there something strange here ? It would be pretty stupid to hold the phone with a handkerchief on one hand to avoid leaving his fingerprints, while he leaves them anyway with the other hand which writes the message. And anyway, it would be pretty uncomfortable and suspicious to write a message on a phone with an handkerchief. The trick is obvious: to avoid leaving any fingerprints on the "borrowed" phone, the only way is to write the deductions on another cell-phone, sending them on the "borrowed" phone, and then sending them to Mouri from the borrowed phone. This way, no fingerprints are left behind and the answer call would be sent on the borrowed phone. Of course, this deduction would imply that Bourbon has his own phone. It would also mean that he would likely have access to the web from his own cell-phone. Proof: The incomplete deductions Gin describes Bourbon as a modern-day Sherlock Holmes. So, if Scar Akai is Bourbon, it appears strange that his deductions are incomplete while he is in the exact same position than Conan and Subaru, both of whom have completed their own deductions. Especially if he has his own cell-phone which would likely grants him access to the web. Also, whether it is Bourbon or not, it's pretty clear that the person who thought that deductions is a great detective. So how comes the deductions are incomplete ? There is at least one logical explanation: the detective isn't Scar Akai. He isn't even present on the scene. So, he can only think his deductions based on the elements Scar Akai can give him (some infos, a picture taken from the cellphone...). The detective can't have all the infos Conan and Subaru are able to gather by being "on the scene", thus explaining the incomplete deductions. So, in fact, while it would appear at first that Scar Akai is the detective, it would be in fact another person who sends Scar Akai his own deductions. By combining these two proofs, I formulate the following deduction. Deduction: Despite what Aoyama intends us to see and to think, Scar Akai is neither Bourbon or the detective who actually wrote the deductions sent to Mouri at the first place. The detective So, who would be the detective ? The only thing I'm sure of is that he's not Subaru. I can think of two possibilities: -The detective is Bourbon (whether he is Masumi Sera or not) and Scar Akai is another BO member. If Subaru isn't Bourbon, then he's likely to be Akai. -The detective is Masumi Sera and she doesn't work for the FBI or the BO. If Scar Akai and Masumi Sera work together, then Subaru is likely to be Bourbon. As for the true nature of Scar Akai and the true intentions of the three suspects, I'm clueless. Edit: Oh no ! The letter is likely not from Kouhei's murderer. I am guessing it is from someone who would want to drag the murderer out. "Distorted existence thoughtlessly conjured up by humans such as yourself. To see me directly is a dream that cannot be realized." put through my melodramatic metaphoric prose to plain English translator comes out as "The police detectives' original explanation is wrong. I want it fixed." This person may have been the one to poison Ikurou in revenge or was Ikurou himself who discovered the trick and was killed by Kouhei's murderer. Ikurou is such an ass though I doubt he would want anyone to discover the truth of the father’s murder, especially because it gives him the chance to become company president. Well maybe it would mean another competitor gets blamed, giving him greater chances to become pres? The post mark on the letter was from 10 days after the incident, so whoever sent it to Heiji figured out the crime quickly. The letter sender was most likely the one to appear in front of Kazuha in the bathroom judging by the similar melodramatic writing style. They used a wig to cover up their face and triggered the black out, perhaps by remote. They then used the same disappearing writing on the tile trick as the original murderer used. The long haired person then escaped. Unfortunately it isn’t clear how they left, either by walking past Kazuha and friends who had moved away from the bathroom entrance or by using a secret exit. Regarding the tile trick a few things can be deduced: • “Eerie rustling sounds” will be made in the course of the trick • The tile had to be replaced, switched or moved somehow because no luminol reaction was found and luminol reactions can’t be easily erased without leaving traces that something was used to erase it (bleach for instance). • When the tile is replaced/moved/switched in the dark, somehow it is possible to align them all properly so the colors are in proper position. There must be an easy way to remove and set the tiles in the right configuration or the tiles change color somehow to match (if they did change color someone would have mentioned that I think.). • The trick takes about 5 minutes, that’s how long the light was out for Kazuha. • The trick only replaced specific tiles rather than all of them. – Only the letters for “eye” disappeared and not the other scratched tiles. • The trick may involve replacing tiles as the adhesive had not dried. There should have also have been spare tiles convenient around because the guy was in the middle of retiling the bathroom. Kazuha’s long haired person had plenty of time to prepare ahead of time. Why did the culprit have to replace the tiles instead of just erasing the dying message by rubbing it off? Perhaps the dying message wasn’t something that wiping off could erase, like scratches along with blood writing. Or maybe the original culprit tiled over the dying message which was on the bare floor? Maybe Kazuha’s person put tiles on top of tiles which is sort of similar to the original trick and she didn’t notice because of having only a short time to look at it? Another possibility was the presence of a luminol reaction would be enough to make the dying message clear. In that case it would be less likely to be writing and more likely to be a shape or something not easily altered. It’s suspicious that the Karuizawa house was scheduled to be rebuilt right after someone died in the family. The only people with enough power in the house to do so would be the wife and son, with the wife taking precedence. The victim was a do-it-yourself person so he would be less likely to call in other people to do work for him. Perhaps this was arranged after the husband’s death by someone who needed to cover something up. The Karuizawa house was neatly maintained and the electricity was working as well, but it has only been a month since the original guy was murdered, so I doubt it would deteriorate. It may imply someone was in there taking care of it though. I wonder if Sera will follow Heiji and Conan. The place they are visiting is in Tokyo after all. Maybe we will get Sato on the case this time. Megure and Takagi are practically assured arrivals. Shiratori woulnd't be bad either. I wonder if Kansuke was on the case in Karuizawa because that's in Nagano (although really close to Gunma). What’s up with Conan’s unsure reaction to Heiji’s excluding of Sera “That's more convenient for our purposes.” Does Conan want Sera to be around so he could keep an eye on her? Did Okiya finally tell him to keep and eye on his sister?

Wait wait wait, didn't Gosho say in some interview somewhere that the name of Anokata appeared in the series already? *Searches* Aha! This seems to be some interview with Minami, who, as you know, voices Conan in Japanese. I'll see if I can get a confirmation on this, too, but I don't have much time right now, ha ha. EDIT: This Japanese website compiling info on Conan confirms that the Detective Conan & Kindaichi Case Files #4 did a special report on what the voice actors know that the general public don't. I guess I'll have to buy the issue to really see the full interview, hmm. /EDIT So if the second source is to be trusted, Anokata's name popped up before sometime in 2005 - and since the first source is reliable, definitely by January 13 2006. The 2chan blog says this means the name popped up somewhere before File 551, but you guys can check that for yourselves. Anyways, I think we can effectively rule out the "new character" possibility, yes? ^^

OMG BRB translating EDIT: Wow, this thing took me forever.

1. Super Smash Brothers Melee (GC) -- This was a great fighting game that was the life of the party 2. Soul Calibur II (GC) -- It was a very technical game that required a lot of focus and planning, which made it fun 3. Pokemon Pearl (DS) -- It really was a great addition to an already great franchise. I have put more hours into this game (347 as of now) than any other game I've played. 4. Star Fox Adventures (GC) -- Some say this was the low point of the Star Fox franchise. I say it was the high point. Yes, the story plot sounds stupid at first, but think about Detective Conan. Detective Conan's story plot sounded stupid at first didn't it? 5. Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Wii) -- Like Melee, this was a great fighting game. Unlike Melee, this game is only fun with friends.

Since every one is talking bad about him I think I should defend him. 1. you say he sounds like a girl. Who cares, it is not like he is your boyfriend. 2. you say he dance like a girl. I have seen some other men singers who dance like girls and people love them. 3. you say he looks like a girl. I have seen some of your photos you look more like a girl than him.
