He invited everybody to come where he was and started to explain. He said that it was a murder set up to look like an accident. He told them the hint was the bruise on his cheek. Megure thought he got it because he fell, but Kogoro tells him that was what he thought at first until he looked at the statue. He then asks everybody to look closer at it and tells them its nose is broken. It was a recent rupture due to something hitting it strongly earlier that day. It was, in fact, Kataoka that hit it- hence the bruise. He explains the body had fallen near the sidewalk, and that if he had fallen from a ladder it would be impossible for him to get a bruise on his cheek. He didn't fall from the ladder. First, he was struck unconscious by someone and collided with the statue. He was then transported to the place where he would pretendedly fall and struck again on the stone floor to kill him. After, he put traces of Kataoka's shoes on the ladder and placed it just next to him to make it look like he fell. When he asks Officer Takagi if there is a tear on Kataoka's mantle Takagi says it isn't torn at all. Kogoro tells everybody that it is strange; his mantle should have been torn because when they were running after him he tore his cape on the fence. However, the corpse of Kataoka didn't have a tear on the mantle, which is because the person they were chasing wasn't Kataoka. Initially, they were chasing Kataoka but during the game, the culprit swapped out the real Kataoka and substituted himself. The one that pretended to be him and killed him was Yuzuru Sada. Ran says that it's not possible because he accompanied them all throughout the game. Kogoro interrupts her and says that there was one moment where they separated- before coming to the backyard. They separated as he told them to continue as he took the other path, which was a premeditated plan. He used the moment of diversion to take a shortcut through the manor. He then disguised himself and struck Kataoka, hiding him behind the statue. He then reappeared as Kaito K in front of Ran and Conan. The one that continued the chase was Sada. When the real one ran in the secret passageway, his shoes when completely dirty but the pedals of the bike were neat. Just after the murder, he disposed of the costume and rehabilitated himself. To defend himself, Sada asks Kogoro how Kataoka made his cry that everybody heard. Takagi, along with an officer, makes the same sound with the stereo, which Sada obviously used. He recorded the sound in advance on a cd and used a timer to broadcast the sound at the right time. When he broadcasted Kataoka's cry, Kataoka was still alive. As they were searching in the manor, Sada murdered Kataoka in the back garden. He held Kataoka's corpse when the others ran over to disguise the blood of the victim that was already on his clothes. His mistake was that the sound was played too loud; shouts don't usually travel so far. Sada-san asks for evidence and Kogoro says that he hid his costume inside the basketball. Conan plays with the ball and it makes a weird sound. Takagi uncovers the costume and the piece of bronze inside the ball. He explains Sada made two mistakes: he didn't take into account that a stray cat would move the ball and that the marble shard would make a strange noise in the ball. Sada confesses he did the crime, and says that his biggest mistake was that he took Mouri's reasoning ability too lightly. He says he killed Kataoka because he forgot about his late wife and lived an extravagant life. The current wife then says that this statement is false because Kataoka only loved detectives and his late wife.</spoiler> |
