Situation

Part 1

Conan, Ran, and Sonoko are cleaning Shinchi's house when an old classmate stops by and claims to be Shinichi's first love. She invites the group to a college party, and Kogoro agrees once he learns one of the people has been a three time beauty contest winner. Once they arrive though, mysterious illnesses seem to hit the birthday girl, and the cottage they are in catches fire. Is this all an accident, did Asami either try to commit suicide or call the others's attention via faking a life-or-death incident -- or is something sinister in the works?

	Location: Bungalow Victim: Asami Uchida Suspects: Manabu Sawai, Tomoko Hayasaka, Shigehisa Noguchi, Chika Miyazaki, and Yoshinobu Morimoto Ran and Conan found Asami lying on the floor with no burn marks which means she is safe and sound.

Part 2

The Fire Chief believes either an attempted suicide has just been prevented or else candles caused an unfortunate accident, but when Conan finds two sheets of paper saying the same thing and learns that two others don't fit together, he must figure out a way to prove attempted murder was on someone's mind.

Manabu Sawai is the culprit. He set up the birthday cake with lit candles on a chair below the fax machine and sent a fax from a convenience store while pretending to use the phone, so the received fax caught fire in the house: he also drugged Asami so she wouldn't be able to get out of the burning place on her own. His motive was to actually save Asami's life, and thus catch her attention after having been rejected by her the previous month.
