Plot

Part 1

Murder

Location: Ramen Ogura Victim: Tokumori Saizu Cause of death: Poison (potassium cyanide) Suspects: Katsumasa Ogura, Sayo Ohashi, and Atsushi Taninaka Strong poison traces are found on Tokumori's left hand thumb and index finger, and dilute traces of the cyanide are found on his chopsticks and the table. Cyanide powder is found in Tokumori's coat pocket. No cyanide was found on or in the victim's ramen, the dishes, or the extra chopsticks.

The barber, Atsushi Taninaka, took advantage of Tokumori Saizu's glasses which he left on the counter while Taninaka was cutting Tokumori's hair. Taninaka applied cyanide to Tokumori Saizu's glasses on the left side where the temple meets the frame, expecting that Saizu would need to remove them when they became fogged up while entering the steamy ramen shop. Saizu removed the glasses, holding them with his left hand while wiping the lenses with a handkerchief in his right, thus poisoning his left hand. The poison was transferred to the chopsticks and then to his mouth when Saizu broke them apart with his teeth.
