Conan, Ran, and Kogoro end up on a paid vacation to Izu Princess beach resort, which is actually a mystery tour, to find the masked Night Baron (a fictional character in Yusaku Kudo's books). The winner gets free room and a software design that is most likely a virus. Ten people are on the tour as well, who get tensed instantly when they find out the detective, Kogoro Mouri is on the tour too. While staring out on the balcony, the Night Baron appears and pushes Conan over the edge causing him to land in the pool.

Later that night, when Conan, Ran, and Satoru are on the outlook lounge, and Kogoro and Hideko at the pub, the Night Baron shows again but something went wrong, he went to the window and falls and is stabbed at the statue's spear.

The killer was Akiko Sayama. Ebara's deals were the cause of her beloved older brother's death, having hacked into his company's records and ruined his computer programmer's career as well as his company, which drove him to suicide; so she organized the trip to punish Ebara with her own hands. (He also tried to sell the program to Kamijo, his ex-wife; she realized that it was a stolen program and stopped its sale).

After the dinner Sayama called Ebara up to her room, promising to give him the "Night Baron" virus, drugged him to make him fall asleep, and then put the Night Baron outfit on him before she threw him off her balcony. The reason why he fell on the statue was an accident, due to the famous Hime-Kaze (Princess Wind) which was blowing at full strength and thus made him fall farther from where he should have, "helped" by how he was wearing a cape that caught wind. Conan proved it by, as Kogoro, making the police release some "dummies" from each room's balcony; the one who fell on the statue was thrown from Maeda and Sayama's suite. The glove that Kogoro saw in Ebara's balcony was actually planted in its place, to make it look like Ebara had thrown himself off it. She also was the one who threw Conan off the balcony, intending to scare Kogoro away.

The false Baron that attacked Ran and Sayama, however, was Satoru Maeda. He did so because, having found the Night Baron wig in his and Sayama's room, he realized his girlfriend's plans and wanted to divert attention from her so she wouldn't go to jail. He went as far as not revealing the alibi thar he did have, as to not create inconsistencies within the story.

Maeda insists that he's the real killer, but Kogoro via Conan reveals that he's not; he is also convicted, but for taking the heat, and is likely to get a lighter sentence. Sayama tells Maeda to forget about her since she's not a good woman; he promises to wait for Sayama's release, however, and despite trying to put on a mask of stoicism, she can't help crying as she's taken away.

Remastered version

A remastered version of the entire case was aired over the span of August 15, 22, and 29, 2009. Instead of editing the episodes and combining them into an hour, all three standalone episodes were remastered.
