Situation

After finding a wounded bird on the ground Conan, Kogoro, and Ran hear a loud scream coming from the building next to them. Once upon entering the building they find a terrified woman in the hall, screaming about how she has just found her husband dead. The murder victim on the balcony, believed to have been killed by a plant pot...

The culprit is Norio Terasawa. He uses the fishing rod as a murder weapon, using its sinker to smash Imoto's head. Sunflower pots were broken in the process and so the illusion the murder was created by physical bludgeoning was created. Evidence to his crime includes the deep imprint he left on the abandoned apartment next-door to the victim's (an imprint that in these circumstances could only be caused by a whip fishing stance) and that could be examined with the murderer's own shoes. Also in the process of the murder a stray bird accidentally got hit in the weapon's line of fire and a mark from the sinker was formed on the veranda railing. The final decisive evidence was the grip rod found in the building that had his fingerprints on it.

His motive for killing Imoto was that he shut down a fishing tackle shop he owned which the victim was going to renovate into company property. The last straw came when he rejected Terasawa's pleas and broke one of his precious fishing rods.
