The accident was a murder. The culprit is Shingo Mizuguchi. First, Shingo knocked Arisa unconscious with the fire extinguisher inside the basket of the hot air balloon. Then, to pin the blame on Okuda, he pulled out a weave from his hot air balloon basket on the night before the contest and picked a fight with him. The proof that Shingo did it was the melted plastic on the hot air balloon in the shape of doll hands. The motive was that the stocks he bought with money he borrowed from his clients crashed and if he didn't return it soon, they were going to audit him next month. He murdered her for her life insurance money.

Trivia

• The sea sweatshirt wearing by Sonoko is the same from The Missing Sweets in the Old Shop, Private Eye in the Distant Sea, the beginning of A Dispute Over a Platinun Ticket, and Conan and Ebizo's Kabuki Jūhachiban Mystery (Part 1).
• All balloons are called "Bell Tree", like the airship in movie 14, The Lost Ship in the Sky, and Shingo Mizuguchi has the number 1. In addition, during the race, the background music is the same for the airship's journey.
• Sonoko's car is the same from the beginning of Conan and Ebizo's Kabuki Jūhachiban Mystery (Part 1), a 2010 Pink Bentley Mulsanne. The license plate number is 新宿 300, す 4 04 (Shinjuku 300, Su 4 04), but it wasn't revealed in the preview special episode.
