Situation

Conan and Ran are on a train and are confronted by a pickpocket but is saved by an elderly man named Tokuma Norizuki. As the train passes Sugamo Station, they notice the police investigating something under the railway. Conan and Ran discover that a man named Kanemura, a local con artist, was killed by a head injury.

Murder

Location: Near the Sugame station

Victim: Tsuneo Kanemura

Cause of death: Blow to the head

Suspects: Teruhiko Kiriya

Norizuki claims he witnessed Kanemura's boss, Takehiko Kiriya, committed the murder. Kiriya said he was called to the crime scene by Kanemura's friend and proclaims he is not the culprit. Conan asks Takagi to investigate on Norizuki and learns that Norizuki's girlfriend, Mitsu, was a victim to their con artist group which resulted in her death.

He reveals that Norizuki used a prepaid ticket to exit and enter Sugamo to murder Kanemura and phoned Kiriya to frame him. As evidence, Detective Takagi found the prepaid ticket at Beika and had it analysed for fingerprints. Norizuki confesses and is appalled to discover Mitsu's diary and how she forgave her con artist.
