She yells about a fire, forcing the culprit, who was hiding in the store, to reveal culprit, the '''salaryman'''. From there, Ran explains her theory. The reason why none of the security cameras was able to capture an intruder was because the thief was residing within the store's restroom air ventilation system. She suspects this idea in how the salaryman would always wait last in line to enter the bathroom politely letting other customers past. He confesses and says he got trapped in the store after closing hours after having been fired. With no way to sustain his life, he decided to stake out the store for food and other daily necessities though he genuinely regretted getting Aya involved and refrained from stealing for a week as well as taking only near expiration bentos to eat. The manager has a change of heart after the confession and hires him as a new store employee. Later, Ran discovers pictures of Shinichi, Conan, and Haibara at Jodie's house.

    Manga to anime changes

    • The anime failed to draw the irregular borders of Jodie's pictures correctly for a second time after the first omission in English Teacher vs. Great Western Detective. This time, Araide's face was hidden completely under other pictures, making this clue, once again, useless.
