Biography
Naoki Makishima was born on August 23, 1962[1][2], in Ibaraki Prefecture[3]. He graduated from Ibaraki Prefectural Shimodate 1st High School and Middle School[1]. He later studied in the voice acting department of the Tokyo Announcing Academy[1]. Following his graduation, he was signed with voice-acting agency Troubadour in 1986[4]. After joining Ken Production in 1995, before signing with Office Kaoru in 2016[4].
He started his professional voice-acting career in 1985, providing the voice for many background characters in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Makishima lands his first major role the same year, voicing Mugi and Nanmo in Dirty Pair. He will however continue to voice mainly background characters in action and slice-of-life anime series. His first role in Detective Conan will be that of an unnamed shop owner in The Coded Map of the City Case, which aired in early 1996. He would provide his voice frequently for background characters in the series, often being paired with Isshin Chiba. His activity diminishes around 2007, as he would later only provide his voice for one or two roles a year. This may have been an early sign of his health deteriorating. His last role was that of Takichi Takeyama in episodes 818-819, which aired in 2016.
In August 2020, he was diagnosed with cancer, which spread to his whole body, and took a break from voice acting in January 2021 to fight the illness[5]. He died on September 29, 2023, at the age of 61, likely from complications from his cancer. News of his death were only spread on June 3, 2024, eight months later[6][7].
