<spoiler>The culprits are '''Satoshi Mizunama''' and '''Tomomi Kashiyama'''. Originally, Mizunuma planned to hide the jack-o'-lanterns in his house. However, his son suddenly came to his house with some coworkers. He then decide to hide it in Kokubo's car along with the jack-o'-lantern balloons with Tomomi's help. Mizunuma removed three ballons so that the jack-o'-lanterns can be put inside. However, the wind blows away the balloons, which was later seen by Kajiyama and Kuwano as ghosts. The reason they also hid their own jack-o'-lanterns is that no suspicion would fall on passerby.

Situation

Beika Shopping Centre is holding a jack-o'-lantern carving contest for halloween. One night, Kuwano and Kajiyama are walking home at night when they pass a road with jack-o'-lantern placed in front of the houses. Suddenly the wind blows strong, and several things get blown away, including three "creatures" with jack-o'-lantern-shaped head.

The next day, Conan goes to Poirot because Kogoro and Ran are going out. There, Azusa is making some jack-o'-lantern and, in exchange for a milk tea, she asks Conan to help her. They later talk about the story behind halloween. Azusa then mentions about the appearance of jack-o'-lantern ghost, which became a hot topic after many people saw it last night. Conan then ask about Amuro whereabout, to Azusa answers that he is taking a few days off. She wishes that could put a collar on Amuro and keep him at Poirot.
