|summary=A boy accidentally witnesses a man leave a house after committing a murder, late at night. The next day, Conan and the Detective Boys observe some caterpillars who are appearing at a tree. While near the area, they stop by to see Takagi and Sato investigating a murder case. When they learn the details, they learn that a witness who didn't see the suspect had said that they had seen the boy running into the killer. The Detective Boys help Takagi and Sato locate the boy, who denies being there at that time. Conan learns why the boy was lying about not being there: the boy was afraid of getting in trouble for taking the caterpillars off of his plants, which are in tribute of his mother who passed away, and putting them on the other plant. Conan deduces who the murderer is, and fails to stop him from harming the boy, who is stabbed. However, a hat that the boy's mother used to wear, protects him from any dangerous wound. The man is then arrested.}}
