Part 1
One evening, Conan, Ran and her father watch the latest Detective Samonji episode based on the ongoing mystery novel series, written by Nintaro Shinmei. Just when Kogoro expresses his annoyance at the series (just because Conan and Ran have outguessed him about the culprit's identity), Shinmei's daughter Kaori appears and hires him to find her father and mother, who have been missing for two months, they find clues that lead them to believe the Shinmeis have been kidnapped, with Mr. Shinmei only being able to leak hints in his scripts...

Heiji Hattori calls having deciphered the text in the first new chapter, and with this information Conan manages to solve the rest of the hidden riddles, but can him and the cops get to the hotel before any type of death takes place?

Resolution
Manga to anime changes
- While Ran and Kogoro are arguing over which shows to watch, Conan recalls Haibara reminding him that if he wants to get his body back, he needs to help Kogoro to become a real detective. Doing so will result in more leads to the Black Organization. In the anime, he reminds himself of the objective as Haibara doesn't show up until The Girl from the Black Organization and the University Professor Murder Case, where as the manga version of Episode 116-117 follows it.
