About the character designs and the movie posters

1. A girl asked whether the "horn" on Ran's head is a bone. Gosho laughed and said that it's not a bone, it's just the hair style. He also emphasized that Ran wouldn't be Ran if she didn't have the "horn" on her head. And Conan wouldn't be Conan if he didn't have the hair strands that gone straightened up at the back of his head.

2. About the origin of Shinichi's birthday (May 4), Gosho said that it's the day that Holmes and Prof. Moriarty died at Reichenbach Fall, which would make it look like Shinichi is the reincarnation of Holmes, however, Holmes never actually died...

3. Gosho said that when he designs the characters and draws the manga, the principle that he sticks to is: Boys must look handsome and girls must look cute (男の子はカツコよく、 女の子は可愛く). He always reminds himself to think and draw seriously.

4. Gosho draws the movie posters, but the texts on the side are not written by him.

About ShinRan

I (the poster) helped a friend ask this: Shinichi has already confessed to Ran back in London. What will their development in the future be, will they have a kissing scene like Takagi and Sato ?

Gosho answered that there'll definitely be a development, he wasn't sure how much he should spoil, but he said that we can expect the "kiss" thing, there will be that part.

About Kaitou Kid and Magic Kaito

1. Basically Gosho said that there is a reason behind Kid and Shinichi's resemblance and he purposely made it like that. That reason may be brought up in the future if he has the chance to draw, but maybe not if he's too busy.

2. A fan asked that: In "Magic Kaito" where Kaitou Kid is the main character, the first Kid (Toichi) was killed by a mysterious organization. Kaitou Kid both find the "Pandora" and hunt the enemies who killed his father at the same time. But in the "Mystery Train" arc, Kid showed up to help Conan. Will Kaitou Kid's story be relevant to the Black Organization because of this ?

Gosho said because that was a special case, so [he] let Kid appeared and have an encounter with the organization. However, Kid has his own story plot, which may be developed in "Magic Kaito", so Kaitou Kid will probably not have any intersection with the BO in the future.

He also said that he really wants to draw MK, at least one volume per year, but since he's too busy with Conan's releases, especially with the "Mystery Train" thing, he never had the time.

About the Black Organization

1. Gosho said that after Amuro there'll also be a new member/new members. Even though he didn't say clearly, but it seems that there won't be only one.

2. A fan asked: All BO members have alcoholic code-names. Does Gosho like alcohols ? Will his most favorite alcohol be The Boss' code-name ?

Gosho said he doesn't really drink, he just picked up the alcoholic names that he thinks are cool. The cool code-names are almost used up now, maybe there's only Whiskey or something... left. [Black Demon: I find this strange because Rye and Bourbon are already whiskeys.]

The Boss doesn't need to have a code-name because (he/she) is the "boss", of course the member's code-names are all come up by The Boss.

3. A fan asked whether Gosho has already come up with the name and character design/setting for The Boss ?

Gosho gave out an ambiguous statement: The Boss has already been come up with/has already appeared; the name also has already been come up with/has already appeared. But which option is the correct understanding, everyone has their own opinion.

However, Gosho stated that it's not Agasha Hiroshi, to which the audiences clap enthusiastically.

4. A girl asked about the "Sherry naked" thing, that why does Gin always think about her without clothes, what exactly is their relationship ?

Gosho answered that they indeed had a relationship, but it wouldn't be interesting if (he) revealed it there, so please wait for it. The poster also mentioned that Gosho had a trolling (or something like that) laugh/smile at the time.

5. From what I (BD) understand here is that a fan asked why Gosho didn't name Amuro directly after Tohru Furuya but had to use a character that has the same pronunciation (透 vs. 徹). Gosho said that it would be too obvious if he did that. [Except it's still very obvious :P ]

About the ending

The poster asked about the ending and Gosho's answer is basically the same as in the past: It may not end just yet, but he also said that doesn't mean (Conan) doesn't have any ending. [So what I understand here is that there may or may not be a ending, and Gosho is also not certain about when will he write the end either.]

When/how/did the boss of the Black Organization appear? Sources 1,6,7, report Gosho said the boss has appeared in some form a "long time ago", but Gosho may have implied the boss could have appeared "recently". Contrast with Source 5 who does not report the part of the answer that the boss has appeared recently. Q: Has the boss appeared? A: He has. Long ago, recently, I wonder when?/I wonder if he appeared long ago or recently (laughs)) The different sources extracted different meanings from this statement. One of the sources (which one?) thought Gosho was taunting, so the phrase may be misunderstood. Source 5 notes Gosho was being vague about what form the boss appeared in. Q10: In the manga he's written as "Haneda" but in the anime is name's ruby reads "Hada" in the anime. What does that mean?

A: That's a mistake from their part. I forgot to tell them. Kouji comes from Tanigawa Kouji (a real-world shogi player).

(T/N: "ruby" is term to refer to the furigana or the "reading" of kanji. Instead of "Haneda" it say "Hada" since they accidentally ommitted the "ne" in "Haneda". Thanks to Fujiwara for pointing this out!)

Q11: What male characters are good at cooking?

A: Amuro is good. Akai learnt from Yukiko and has gotten better but his stew could be improved. I guess Amuro's the one who's more skilled at cooking.

Q12: What's the inspiration for the Night Baron? Is it the "Red Baron" in which Akai and Char were based upon?

A: Red Baron?

Q13: It was famous in America as...

A: No, that's not it. The inspiration is Edogawa Ranpo's "Golden Mask".

Q14: Will Amuro have a tragic end?

A: Dunno. Can't answer that right now.

Q15: Akai dated Akemi when he was infiltrating the BO, but did Amuro do something like that?

A: He's not doing that right now.

A: An RX-7. I used it as model to come up with Sato's car. In the anime it's red but it's black in the manga. Amuro has this car, too. It'd seem that police cars can't be so flashy. Actually... I was kidding about that of the car's colors!

Q22: What about Akai and Jodie's relationship? When did they start hanging out? Did either of them confess to the other?

A: It's a secret. Enjoy it when I publish about it, if I get to.

A: Who? Kazami? Do you like the guy?

Q24: Because Amuro doesn't have any allies.

A: That scene with Korn. Other scenes (apart from that where Shinichi, Ran and Sonoko go to Sonoko's house) were influenced by me, too. I also decided on that scene with Akai.

Q27: What do you use as inspiration for the girls' clothes?

A: Various women buy those clothes. I used "JJ" or "anan" as reference before.

Q28: Who told you about the Chuubu earthquake?

A: I was sleeping and one of my assistants woke me up. I was surprised that the TV said "Beika City" when reporting the earthquake.

Q29: Will Okita show up in the next movie?

A: He won't. But maybe he'll show up in the manga. Since he's in the same high-school as Momiji.

Q30: Which poem of the "Hyakunin Isumi" do you like?

A: "Chihayafuru"!

Q31: Will Takagi and Sato marry?

A: I'd like for them to marry.

Q32: Kudo Shinichi, Akai Shuuichi, Kuroba Touichi. Are characters with the "ichi" (one) Kanji in their names relevant? What about [Furuya] Rei? And Heiji's "ji"?

A: In Touichi's case I wanted Mr.Ikeda to be his VA. Akai is Ikeda. Shinichi comes from Hoshi Shinichi. Furuya Rei's "Rei" is unrelated. Heiji is also unrelated.

Q33: Is there a love episode for Haibara?

A: She likes that soccer player. She's attracted to him.

Q34: In the "Visual Book" it says that Shinichi... was born in the US? And that he lives in the US?

A: Tha'ts wrong. He's born in Japan.

Q35: There are a lot of "strong types" amongst the female characters, do you like that type of character?

A: I like "tsunderes".

Q36: Who was Haibara speaking to in Episode One? Is there any meaning to the scene?

A: There's none. It won't be brought up.

A: It is the first encounter. I'm considering whether I should depict Yukiko's and Ran's first meeting.

Q20: Among all girl characters in Meitantei Conan, I feel like there are a lot of strong-willed women, err… does Aoyama-sensei love this type? Or is this unintentional?

A: I love ‘tsundere’ type! My favourite. Of course I like cute ones too.

Q21: Kudo Shinichi, Akai Shuichi, Kuroba Toichi, all important characters has ‘ichi’ in their names. And Chiba-san’s first name was not his seiyu’s, the 'one’ is changed to 'wa’.

A: Aa, you noticed! Sorry. And if you want more details, I wanted Toichi to be voiced by Ikeda Shuichi, so he was named Toichi, who gave him the voice. Akai Shuichi goes without saying. Shinichi is a little different. He was named after Hoshi Shinichi-san.

Q: Regarding the teaser poster for "Black Iron Submarine", in the rough drawing stage, Kuroda and Rum are depicted in the current position of Akai and Amuro, and there were some faces that looked like Inspector Shiratori and Detective Sato, but are they really important enough to be depicted in the original teaser? Also, why do the members of the organization have one eye closed or hidden in the final version of the poster?
Aoyama: That's right. When I first drew it, I thought there were too many characters (laughs), and I thought it would be too much of a hassle (laughs), so I narrowed it down. At first I drew Kuroda and Rum, but I thought that Akai and Amuro should take those prominent positions. Also, the inclusion of Professor (Agasa) was at the director's request. When I added Professor in as a request, Director Tachikawa replied, "Thank you very much for including him." Well, the thing about keeping one eye closed is that back then, keeping one eye closed was pretty popular (laughs), but it doesn't mean that much (laughs).

Q: Back when Yukiko disguised Conan as Ai, Conan thought to Yukiko's disguise, "Come to think of it, the Haibara disguise was good, too!" (Detective Conan Volume 85), is there any reason for that?
Aoyama: No, not really (laughs) He was just thinking about how much they looked alike (laughs) I just wrote this line as a little excuse (laughs)

Q: What was it like when Furuya and Kazami first met?

Q. Please tell us how Kazami spend his days off, other than with Yoko-chan.

I’m curious if he avoids using hotel amenities to leave no traces—does he bring his own stuff? Also, does he wear hotel bathrobes?
Aoyama: Ah~ (laughs)
Questioner: I’m really curious about whether Gin wears a hotel bathrobe, so if you could tell us, that’d be great
Aoyama: Ah~ (laughs) is that so (laughs) eh? But aren’t they sleeping in their car ? (laughs)

Q. I have a question about Azusa-san. Could you tell us how many years she has worked at Poirot in total?

Q. I was born and raised in Tottori. Are there any plans to set a movie in Tottori Prefecture?

Aoyama: Well, I once tried using the Tottori dialect in a work, but people said they couldn’t understand it (laughs). It’s tricky, you know? Osaka dialect, Hakata dialect—they’re easier to understand. But Tottori is difficult. If I were to use it, I’d want to use the Tottori dialect, though. So, I’d have to figure out how to do it well. I’ll think about it (laughs)

Q. (Following the previous question) Heiji and Kazuha ended up together, but Momiji said she would still keep trying. Will Iori-san, Momiji’s butler, continue to stay by her side, or—because of his previous profession—will there come a time when he has to go somewhere else?
Aoyama: Ah~ no, I think he’ll stay with her for a long time. He’ll probably be there until Momiji dies (laughs). I think he’ll continue to protect her Questioner: Thank you

Q. I have a question about the Conan Café. I know that you love curry rice, but are there any other menu items at the Conan Café that you’d like to try?
Aoyama: What kind of menu items do they have at the Conan Café again? (laughs)

Aoyama: I’m not really sure about the menu right now, but I generally like things like Napolitan pasta or stuff that kids tend to like (laughs). Like hamburgers or hamburger steak (laughs), I like those (laughs). Sorry for being kind of vague

Q. I wanted to ask about the planning for aiko’s tranquilizer gun scene, but it seems like some behind-the-scenes details have already been revealed…
Aoyama: Oh, we had a lot of discussions about it! At first, we were like, Should we go with a funya sound? (in a soft voice), but even so, that was a bit much (laughs)
Questioner: I’m a fan of aiko, and I go to her live shows. I also watched the behind-the-scenes video from the NHK’s Kōhaku. Did seeing Aiko-san ever inspire you to come up with a murder case?
Aoyama: No, hahaha (laughs). No, not really (laughs). You want that? (laughs) I mean, it’d be kind of sad to have a singer commit murder, so… yeah. Maybe I’ll think of something where she’s just involved in a case or something (laughs). Aiko-san was really cute

Q. Since Akai-san was raised in the UK, did he do any sports other than Jeet Kune Do?
Aoyama: Hmm, I wonder but Jeet Kune Do… he probably learned it from his father, so he probably didn’t have much interest in other sports (laughs). But he does seem like he’d be good at cricket (laughs)

Q. I live in Kurayoshi. The city’s area code appears to be significant in the works. How do you see Kurayoshi being involved in future Conan stories?
Aoyama: Ah~ that’s just a coincidence (laughs). I’ve been a bit careful with using Kurayoshi in the story, as I might upset people from there (laughs). It’s a coincidence, sorry about that (laughs)

Q. Could you share a New Year’s Day memory from when you were little?
Aoyama: A memory? Well, my family would say, “Let’s go do hatsumōde (New Year’s shrine visit),” but I’d be like, “That’s a hassle, I’ll stay home,” and that’s kind of what my New Year’s Day memories were like (laughs)
But these days, I absolutely go. For my health (laughs). Like, “Please take care of me again this year,” and I go to pray (laughs). I go for hatsumōde. That’s how it is (laughs)

Q. In a recent issue of Sunday, there was a scene where Hiro confronted the culprit. Did he already have experience in martial arts or something?
Aoyama: At the police, they probably learn self-defense techniques and martial arts, so he might not have had any experience originally, but Hiro’s actually pretty strong. Though not as strong as Kyōgoku (laughs)

Q. I’d like to know about Inspector Ayanokoji’s private life in Kyoto. Could you tell us about his hobbies or what he usually does?
Aoyama: Ah~ (laughs) Well, isn’t he probably just feeding Maro-chan? (laughs)
Questioner: Does he have any other hobbies?
Aoyama: Hobbies? (laughs) He really loves Maro-chan, that guy (laughs). Hmm, do you have any suggestions?
Questioner: Maybe something like kyūdō (Japanese archery)…?
Aoyama: Kyūdō!? (laughs) Archery!? Wow! (laughs) Well, I’ll think about it (laughs)

Q. Are there any plans to depict a triple date story with Shinichi & Ran, Heiji & Kazuha, and Kyogoku & Sonoko?
Aoyama: I hadn’t thought about that at all (laughs). A triple date, huh? (laughs) Well, I guess so (laughs). I’ll think about it (laughs). Ahaha (laughs)

Q. I watched the Professional broadcast, and I noticed you eat quite a bit of curry. I also went to Bondy and enjoyed it. Are there any other foods you’ve been eating while working or any current food recommendations?
Aoyama: Hmm, I wonder if there’s anything? (laughs) I mostly just eat cheap stuff (laughs). Lately, I’ve been pretty into the mini beef bowl packs from Yoshinoya (laughs). They’re small, healthy, and really nice

Q. I live in Saitama. Despite being close to Tokyo, there haven’t been any detectives appearing from there…

Aoyama: Ah, okay (laughs). Someday (laughs). Yokomizo actually first appeared as part of the Saitama Prefectural Police, but then… he got transferred to Shizuoka (laughs). Q. I’m a Taiwanese person living in Japan. Conan has only been to the UK outside of Japan in the movies. Does he have any plans to go to other countries? Like Taiwan, maybe…
Aoyama: His passport situation is kind of a mess… (laughs) That guy, you know? (laughs) Um… he doesn’t really get to go overseas very easily, so… yeah, the only way is to get stuffed into Kaito Kid’s suitcase or something (laughs). So yeah, going abroad is pretty tough for him (laughs). If he went back to normal, sure, he could go… but as Conan, it’s kinda hard right now (laughs). Plus, I can’t just keep reusing the same gag over and over (laughs)
MC: You mean the feeling is, We want him to come to Taiwan!, right?
Aoyama: Ah, I see. Yeah, I’d like to visit Taiwan! (laughs)

Questioner: Is there a last name in your works that you personally really like or one you’d want to have yourself?
Aoyama: Ahh… it’d have to be Kudo, I think (laughs). After all, I really liked Kudo-chan from Detective Story, the one Yusaku Matsuda played. If I could become Kudo, I totally would (laughs)

Q. In the latest volume, there was a development between Heiji and Kazuha at Abeno Harukas (Naniwa Harukas). Was this idea planned even before Abeno Harukas was completed?
Aoyama: Before it was completed…?
Questioner: I mean, before Abeno Harukas was finished, did you already plan a story where they confess their feelings or express their love from a high place…?
Aoyama: Ahh, well, of course, after it was completed… (laughs) When was it completed?
Questioner: So it’s not like you’d had it planned from way back, right?
Aoyama: Yeah, after it was completed… And, when I decided to do it, I definitely wanted to involve Kazuha’s mother. I thought, “I’ll trick everyone!” (laughs) I wanted to make everyone think she’s going to confess to Kazuha’s mother, but then do a twist— that was something I had in mind for a long time! (laughs)

Q. Who is stronger, Ran Mouri or Kogoro Mouri?
Aoyama: Stronger!? (laughs) Ahh, wow… that’s a great question (laughs). But well, Kogoro’s actually pretty strong too (laughs). But Ran-chan is like destructively strong (laughs)

Aoyama: Well, they’re about the same, I guess (laughs). But you know, if they fought, since he’s her father, I think he’d go easy on her. That’s the punchline (laughs)

Q. I’m from Kyushu, and when I go to Tokyo for work, I feel the differences between the regions. Could you create a case that incorporates these regional distinctions?
Aoyama: Ahh, yeah, I’ve wanted to use dialects and things like that, but it’s a bit difficult. I’d like to do it someday, though
Questioner: It’d be great if it could be set in Kyushu…
Aoyama: Kyushu, sure! (laughs) Are you talking about Hakata dialect?
Questioner: I speak Saga dialect

Aoyama: Eh~? where would that be? It’s been a long time since I moved to Tokyo (laughs). There’s a place nearby called Odaiba, and I’ve used that before, but… I’m not really sure. As for Tottori, maybe crab? Hmm… and pears, I guess… something like that (laughs). I’m not sure how I’d use them, though (laughs). But it’s all delicious stuff, that’s for sure (laughs)

Q. Who is the tallest character among all of them?
Aoyama: The tallest? Ah～Gin or Kyogoku
Questioner: I heard that Date is over 2 meters tall…
Aoyama: Ahh~! maybe Date!? (laughs) Date and Gin might be pretty close in height. Kyogoku might actually be a bit shorter. Anyway, those three are all really tall. It’s not Kazami, though (laughs). In my mind, Kazami is about the same height as Amuro (laughs). So, it’s Gin, Kyogoku, or Date. The top 3! (laughs)
