'''Question by junior high school students and under:'''
+
+
Q. Will the Kuroba family and the Kudou family ever properly meet?
+
Gosho Aoyama (hereafter, Aoyama): Eh? From now on?
+
Questioner : Yes, from now on
+
Aoyama: Well ~ no but, do you want to see it? (laughs)
+
Questioner : I do want to see it (laughs)
+
Aoyama: Then I’ll think about it (laughs)
+
Questioner : Thank you (laughs)
+
(Audience applauds)
+
+
+
+
MC: Saying you’ll think about it is a good answer, isn’t it, Sensei? (laughs)
+
Aoyama: Right? (laughs) It’s a good one, isn’t it? (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. You appeared on the Kōhaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Song Battle). Will there be a case related to Kōhaku in the future? (Will you draw one?)
+
Aoyama: Ahh~ (laughs) Yeah (laughs). Well ~ I wonder—NHK might not be too happy about that (laughs)
+
(Audience laughs)
+
Aoyama: They might not allow it (laughs). But you know, I did think it might be interesting to do a case involving a music show, though it seems like it could get complicated (laughs)
+
MC: How about changing the title to something like East vs. West Song Battle?
+
Aoyama: Ahh~ Music Show Murder Case (laughs). Yeah, well, I’ll think about it (laughs)
+
+
+
+
Q. If Heiji-kun and Kazuha-chan start dating, what will happen to Momiji-chan?
+
Aoyama: Ahh~ Well, from Momiji’s perspective, she hasn’t given up yet (laughs). I think she’ll keep trying her best in that area Something like that (laughs)
+
MC: So you’re going to have her keep trying. She’s the kind of girl who doesn’t give up, right?
+
Aoyama: That’s right (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. How are you able to come up with so many different characters?
+
Aoyama: I don’t really know! (laughs) I just kind of think of them naturally. I guess I’ve watched a lot of movies
+
MC: Didn’t you mention last year that even when many culprits appear, you don’t draw the same person twice? You always change something about them
+
Aoyama: Yeah, that’s right (laughs). I watch a lot of movies, manga, and dramas (laughs)
+
MC: So they just sort of come to you—that’s amazing
+
Aoyama: It’s just somehow (laughs)
+
+
+
+
'''General questions:'''
+
Q. Are there any plans to depict a story in which Chihaya-san and Furuya-san (Rei) meet or work together on a case, in relation to the Police Academy group?
+
Aoyama: You mean like Chihayafuru? (laughs) Ahh~ well, it’s an interesting idea, so I’ll think about it (laughs)
+
MC: Did you maybe just now decide to consider it because it sounds interesting? (laughs)
+
Aoyama: Ahaha (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Of all the stories you’ve drawn so far, which one is your favorite, Aoyama-sensei?
+
Aoyama: Ah, well, that would definitely be “Ran GIRL” and “Shinichi BOY” (from Detective Conan volume 87). I honestly think that turned out pretty well, even if I say so myself (laughs)
+
MC: Every year, you say you love Ran-chan, you love romance stories, and you love lovey-dovey stuff.
+
Aoyama: That’s true (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Why was Kogoro able to become a detective even though he doesn’t have any deductive skills? (Asked by a young boy)
+
Aoyama: Ahahaha (laughs)
+
(Audience laughter)
+
Aoyama: Well, yeah… he doesn’t really have deductive skills (laughs), but he has other good points—like being good with a gun, or strong in judo (laughs). And, well… you know, he’s got Conan with him, right? Hehehe (laughs). The world runs pretty smoothly, doesn’t it? (laughs) Yeah (laughs). Thanks (laughs)
+
MC: That was a fun question (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. What day in September is Aoko Nakamori-chan’s birthday?
+
Aoyama: September… ahh~ (laughs) I haven’t decided that (laughs). Do you have a preferred date? (laughs)
+
Questioner: Eh…?
+
Aoyama: If you say one now, that might end up being it?
+
MC: Wow, you might actually get to decide it!
+
Questioner: Umm… then… since Kaito’s birthday is the 21st… maybe the 12th…?
+
Aoyama: September 12th? Are you okay with that?
+
Questioner: Ah… uhh… yeah, that’s fine…
+
MC: So you’re leaving it up to the sensei
+
Aoyama: Alright then, I’ll think about it for now (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. What does Ran-chan usually talk about with her karate club members?
+
Aoyama: Eh~? (laughs)
+
Questioner: Do they talk about love?
+
Aoyama: I’m sure they do (laughs)
+
Questioner: That’s great to hear
+
Aoyama: I bet everyone’s really interested in hearing Ran’s stories (laughs)
+
Questioner: I’d love to join in!
+
Aoyama: Ahahaha (laughs)
+
(Audience laughs)
+
Aoyama: Well, if I come up with a scene like that, I’ll think about it (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Is there a plan to depict the moment or reason when Kazuha-chan fell in love with Heiji?
+
Aoyama: Ohh~ (laughs) You want to see that? Well, I’ll think about it (laughs). But… I might actually draw it (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. In the scene where Heiji confesses to Kazuha at the Abeno Harukas, there’s a moment when they hold hands and come down together. Should we interpret that Heiji was the one who initiated the hand-holding? Is there a plan to depict that moment in the story?
+
Aoyama: Ahh~ (laughs) Well, I think it was Heiji who initiated the hand-holding (laughs). Whether I’ll draw it or not, I’m not sure, but I’ll think about it (laughs)
+
Questioner: Please do!
+
Aoyama: Well, if you go to the Conan Detective Agency (Furusato-kan), you’ll find a colored illustration of that scene displayed there (laughs). Go check it out (laughs). Highly recommend it (laughs)
+
Aoyama: It’s fun (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Aside from aiko and B’z, was there anyone you saw live at the Kōhaku (Red and White Song Festival) who made you think, “Wow, this person is amazing”?
+
Aoyama: Eh~? Ohhh~? (laughs) Hey, hey, hey (laughs). No, no, no… okay, okay, okay… (laughs)
+
(Audience laughs)
+
Questioner: without Fukuyama-san either (laughs)
+
Aoyama: Ehh~~? (laughs) I wonder who it was? (laughs)
+
MC: You were spot on with your guesses!
+
Aoyama: Yeah, that’s true (laughs). Everyone was great, though! (laughs) Ahaha (laughs). Anyway, B’z were just amazing. The stage was so dark from our perspective that we could only tell someone was there, but we couldn’t see them clearly. Then, when the screen showed “B’z,” we all went, “Whoooa!!” It was incredible!! … B’z, yeah (laughs)
+
(Audience laughs)
+
Questioner: Thank you!
+
+
+
Q. Have you considered a spin-off where Heiji Hattori is the main character?
+
Aoyama: A spin-off like Zero’s Tea Time?
+
Questioner: Um, something like Hanzawa-san?
+
Aoyama: Ah, Hanzawa-san (laughs)! I wonder how it’s different (laughs). Ahaha (laughs)
+
(Audience laughs)
+
Aoyama: Not at the moment, no (laughs). Sorry about that (laughs). Did you want to see it?
+
Questioner: Yes, a manga with him as the main character…
+
Aoyama: Ahh~ (laughs) For now, no one comes to mind, but… well, let’s just say that for now (laughs)
+
+
+
+
Q. Last year, I think the couple that made the most progress was Heiji-kun and Kazuha-chan. If there’s going to be more progress in the future, which couple would you like us to focus on?
+
Aoyama: Well, maybe Kansuke and…? (laughs)
+
Questioner: And…?
+
Aoyama: Well, yeah (laughs). There’s a couple I really shouldn’t mention that’s in my head right now… (laughs). It’s kind of dangerous, (laughs). So yeah, that’s about it, (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. I want to ask about Gin. I think he’s being chased by the FBI, including Akai-san, and he probably travels all over the place. Does he have safe houses across the country, or does he move around like Mary and the others, staying in different hotels? I’m curious if he avoids using hotel amenities to leave no traces—does he bring his own stuff? Also, does he wear hotel bathrobes?
+
Aoyama: Ah~ (laughs)
+
Questioner: I’m really curious about whether Gin wears a hotel bathrobe, so if you could tell us, that’d be great
+
Aoyama: Ah~ (laughs) is that so (laughs) eh? But aren’t they sleeping in their car ? (laughs)
+
Questioner: They don’t stay at hotel?
+
Aoyama: As for where they stay, it seems like they’re probably staying in a place no one knows about (laughs). And then maybe like some sort of organization’s apartment or secret hideout-like places scattered all over the place, I think (laughs)
+
Questioner: So they move around without the FBI finding them…
+
Aoyama: Yeah, they probably aren’t being found (laughs)
+
Questioner: Do you think he wears a bathrobe?
+
Aoyama: Gin? (laughs)
+
Questioner: Yes!
+
Aoyama: Ah~ (laughs) Well, of course, he would wear it (laughs)
+
Questioner: I think it would suit him!
+
Aoyama: He probably has a hard time washing his hair, though (laughs)
+
+
Q. I’m from Hokkaido. I think last year’s movie featured Hakodate as the setting, and the clock tower appeared. I’d love to see tourist spots from Sapporo in future stories. Will that happen?
+
Aoyama: Well, it might be a little while before that happens (laughs), but maybe it could happen. Do you have any recommendations?
+
Questioner: Well, there’s Odori Park…
+
Aoyama: Ah~ (laughs) Yes
+
Questioner: There are also romantic spots, like the TV Tower
+
Aoyama: Yes, I’ll think about it then (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. I have a question about Azusa-san. Could you tell us how many years she has worked at Poirot in total?
+
Aoyama: Azusa? How many years has it been, I wonder? (laughs) I don’t really know (laughs). Well ~ hmm, but maybe she’s been working since high school, after all ~
+
Questioner: Since high school… Thank you
+
Aoyama: Thanks (laughs). I just randomly said that, though (laughs)
+
MC: Everyone has interesting things they’re curious about, huh
+
+
+
Q. I was born and raised in Tottori. Are there any plans to set a movie in Tottori Prefecture?
+
Aoyama: Eh~? (laughs) Not at the moment, no (laughs)
+
Questioner: If possible, I’d love to see one!
+
Aoyama: Well, I once tried using the Tottori dialect in a work, but people said they couldn’t understand it (laughs). It’s tricky, you know? Osaka dialect, Hakata dialect—they’re easier to understand. But Tottori is difficult. If I were to use it, I’d want to use the Tottori dialect, though. So, I’d have to figure out how to do it well. I’ll think about it (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. (Following the previous question) Heiji and Kazuha ended up together, but Momiji said she would still keep trying. Will Iori-san, Momiji’s butler, continue to stay by her side, or—because of his previous profession—will there come a time when he has to go somewhere else?
+
Aoyama: Ah~ no, I think he’ll stay with her for a long time. He’ll probably be there until Momiji dies (laughs). I think he’ll continue to protect her
+
Questioner: Thank you
+
+
+
Q. I have a question about the Conan Café. I know that you love curry rice, but are there any other menu items at the Conan Café that you’d like to try?
+
Aoyama: What kind of menu items do they have at the Conan Café again? (laughs)
+
Questioner: They change every year
+
Aoyama: I’m not really sure about the menu right now, but I generally like things like Napolitan pasta or stuff that kids tend to like (laughs). Like hamburgers or hamburger steak (laughs), I like those (laughs). Sorry for being kind of vague
+
+
+
Q. I wanted to ask about the planning for aiko’s tranquilizer gun scene, but it seems like some behind-the-scenes details have already been revealed…
+
Aoyama: Oh, we had a lot of discussions about it! At first, we were like, Should we go with a funya sound? (in a soft voice), but even so, that was a bit much (laughs)
+
Questioner: I’m a fan of aiko, and I go to her live shows. I also watched the behind-the-scenes video from the NHK’s Kōhaku. Did seeing Aiko-san ever inspire you to come up with a murder case?
+
Aoyama: No, hahaha (laughs). No, not really (laughs). You want that? (laughs) I mean, it’d be kind of sad to have a singer commit murder, so… yeah. Maybe I’ll think of something where she’s just involved in a case or something (laughs). Aiko-san was really cute
+
+
Q. Since Akai-san was raised in the UK, did he do any sports other than Jeet Kune Do?
+
Aoyama: Hmm, I wonder but Jeet Kune Do… he probably learned it from his father, so he probably didn’t have much interest in other sports (laughs). But he does seem like he’d be good at cricket (laughs)
+
Questioner: Maybe… baseball too, in America?
+
Aoyama: Yeah, true (laughs). I think he’d be good at cricket
+
+
+
+
Q. I live in Kurayoshi. The city’s area code appears to be significant in the works. How do you see Kurayoshi being involved in future Conan stories?
+
Aoyama: Ah~ that’s just a coincidence (laughs). I’ve been a bit careful with using Kurayoshi in the story, as I might upset people from there (laughs). It’s a coincidence, sorry about that (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Could you share a New Year’s Day memory from when you were little?
+
Aoyama: A memory? Well, my family would say, “Let’s go do hatsumōde (New Year’s shrine visit),” but I’d be like, “That’s a hassle, I’ll stay home,” and that’s kind of what my New Year’s Day memories were like (laughs)
+
But these days, I absolutely go. For my health (laughs). Like, “Please take care of me again this year,” and I go to pray (laughs). I go for hatsumōde. That’s how it is (laughs)
+
+
+
+
Q. In a recent issue of Sunday, there was a scene where Hiro confronted the culprit. Did he already have experience in martial arts or something?
+
Aoyama: At the police, they probably learn self-defense techniques and martial arts, so he might not have had any experience originally, but Hiro’s actually pretty strong. Though not as strong as Kyōgoku (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. I’d like to know about Inspector Ayanokoji’s private life in Kyoto. Could you tell us about his hobbies or what he usually does?
+
Aoyama: Ah~ (laughs) Well, isn’t he probably just feeding Maro-chan? (laughs)
+
Questioner: Does he have any other hobbies?
+
Aoyama: Hobbies? (laughs) He really loves Maro-chan, that guy (laughs). Hmm, do you have any suggestions?
+
Questioner: Maybe something like kyūdō (Japanese archery)…?
+
Aoyama: Kyūdō!? (laughs) Archery!? Wow! (laughs) Well, I’ll think about it (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Are there any plans to depict a triple date story with Shinichi & Ran, Heiji & Kazuha, and Kyogoku & Sonoko?
+
Aoyama: I hadn’t thought about that at all (laughs). A triple date, huh? (laughs) Well, I guess so (laughs). I’ll think about it (laughs). Ahaha (laughs)
+
MC: This, you haven’t thought about it, right? (laughs)
+
Aoyama: Sorry (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. I watched the Professional broadcast, and I noticed you eat quite a bit of curry. I also went to Bondy and enjoyed it. Are there any other foods you’ve been eating while working or any current food recommendations?
+
Aoyama: Hmm, I wonder if there’s anything? (laughs) I mostly just eat cheap stuff (laughs). Lately, I’ve been pretty into the mini beef bowl packs from Yoshinoya (laughs). They’re small, healthy, and really nice
+
MC: So the portion size is just right for you?
+
Aoyama: Yeah, that’s right. Also, I like regular curry from CoCo Ichibanya (laughs)
+
MC: Sensei’s easy on the wallet!
+
Aoyama: Well, yeah (laughs) it’s delicious
+
+
+
Q. I live in Saitama. Despite being close to Tokyo, there haven’t been any detectives appearing from there…
+
Aoyama: Ahaha (laughs), sorry about that (laughs)
+
Questioner: I’d like to see a case that takes place in Saitama.
+
Aoyama: Ah, okay (laughs). Someday (laughs). Yokomizo actually first appeared as part of the Saitama Prefectural Police, but then… he got transferred to Shizuoka (laughs). Sorry about that (laughs)
+
At one point I thought about having Yokomizo move around to different prefectures, but I was told that kind of thing rarely happens (laughs)
+
So… well, Saitama… eventually (laughs). I’ll draw it (laughs). I’ll think about it (laughs). Sorry (laughs).
+
MC: Which one? Are you thinking about it or planning to draw it?
+
Aoyama: I’ll think about it! (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Does Kazuha-chan have any interests besides aikido?
+
Aoyama: Ahh—well, what she loves is Heiji (laughs). Let’s see… I think she probably likes cooking and such. Umm… cooking and… I wonder what else… I honestly haven’t thought about it (laughs). That question really came out of nowhere (laughs). Like, what she might like… If you have any ideas, I’d be glad to hear them
+
MC: What do you think she might like? Just based on your own imagination…
+
Questioner: …
+
MC: (The person asking the question) said that that’s what they wanted to ask
+
Aoyama: Right? (laughs) They handed the decision over to me (laughs)
+
MC: yeah, thinking about it, it would probably end up like that
+
Aoyama: Do you have anything in mind?
+
Questioner: …
+
MC: Well then both of you think about it (laughs)
+
Aoyama: Well, it’s fine (laughs). I’ll think about it myself (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. I’m a Taiwanese person living in Japan. Conan has only been to the UK outside of Japan in the movies. Does he have any plans to go to other countries? Like Taiwan, maybe…
+
Aoyama: His passport situation is kind of a mess… (laughs) That guy, you know? (laughs) Um… he doesn’t really get to go overseas very easily, so… yeah, the only way is to get stuffed into Kaito Kid’s suitcase or something (laughs). So yeah, going abroad is pretty tough for him (laughs). If he went back to normal, sure, he could go… but as Conan, it’s kinda hard right now (laughs). Plus, I can’t just keep reusing the same gag over and over (laughs)
+
MC: You mean the feeling is, We want him to come to Taiwan!, right?
+
Aoyama: Ah, I see. Yeah, I’d like to visit Taiwan! (laughs)
+
MC: Really? You, sensei?
+
Aoyama: Yeah, yeah, yeah (laughs)
+
MC: Please go! Make the time for it (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. I really love the Black Organization’s code names—they’re so cool! I’d love to see more members with code names. Are there any new characters planned for the future?
+
Aoyama: What kind of alcohol would you like to see show up?
+
Questioner: Honestly… something like ●● (a type of alcohol), maybe…? (laughs)
+
Aoyama: ●●…? Wait, do you mean ●●-san?
+
Questioner: What!? You got it!?
+
Aoyama: Seriously!!
+
Questioner: Wow…! Thank you so much!
+
Aoyama: Wow! You got it right—you’re the one who likes Takaaki, right!?
+
Questioner: Yes…! That’s me!
+
Aoyama: That’s great (laughs). Takaaki is going to be super active this year, so look forward to it (laughs)!
+
Questioner: Thank you so much!
+
Aoyama: Do your best! (laughs) — Ah, I’m the one who has to do their best, (laughs)
+
MC: ?
+
Aoyama: This person always sends me fan letters… (laughs)
+
MC: Ah, I see! So that’s why you got so excited?
+
Aoyama: Exactly (laughs)
+
MC: Kinda feels like everyone got left behind (laughs)
+
Aoyama: Ahh ~! (laughs) Sorry! (laughs)
+
MC: I’m so happy that Sensei noticed me (laughs). Sensei… please (let me win) the next drawing…
+
Aoyama: Ahh oops! (laughs) I was totally caught up with ●●-san! (laughs)
+
(Audience laughter)
+
+
+
+
Q. Will there be a story where Shinichi and Kaito Kid fight in the future?
+
Aoyama: Ah, yes, I’d like to draw that! (laughs)
+
Questioner: I’m looking forward to it!
+
Aoyama: Ahaha (laughs) Shinichi, huh
+
+
+
Q. My name is Hattori. Thanks to Detective Conan, I’ve come to like my last name.
+
Aoyama: Ahahaha (laughs). No, no, no (laughs). I mean, there’s also Hanzō, right? (laughs)
+
Questioner: Is there a last name in your works that you personally really like or one you’d want to have yourself?
+
Aoyama: Ahh… it’d have to be Kudo, I think (laughs). After all, I really liked Kudo-chan from Detective Story, the one Yusaku Matsuda played. If I could become Kudo, I totally would (laughs)
+
+
+
+
Q. In the latest volume, there was a development between Heiji and Kazuha at Abeno Harukas (Naniwa Harukas). Was this idea planned even before Abeno Harukas was completed?
+
Aoyama: Before it was completed…?
+
Questioner: I mean, before Abeno Harukas was finished, did you already plan a story where they confess their feelings or express their love from a high place…?
+
Aoyama: Ahh, well, of course, after it was completed… (laughs) When was it completed?
+
Questioner: So it’s not like you’d had it planned from way back, right?
+
Aoyama: Yeah, after it was completed… And, when I decided to do it, I definitely wanted to involve Kazuha’s mother. I thought, “I’ll trick everyone!” (laughs) I wanted to make everyone think she’s going to confess to Kazuha’s mother, but then do a twist— that was something I had in mind for a long time! (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Who is stronger, Ran Mouri or Kogoro Mouri?
+
Aoyama: Stronger!? (laughs) Ahh, wow… that’s a great question (laughs). But well, Kogoro’s actually pretty strong too (laughs). But Ran-chan is like destructively strong (laughs)
+
MC: Destructively strong, indeed (laughs)
+
Aoyama: Well, they’re about the same, I guess (laughs). But you know, if they fought, since he’s her father, I think he’d go easy on her. That’s the punchline (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. I’m from Kyushu, and when I go to Tokyo for work, I feel the differences between the regions. Could you create a case that incorporates these regional distinctions?
+
Aoyama: Ahh, yeah, I’ve wanted to use dialects and things like that, but it’s a bit difficult. I’d like to do it someday, though
+
Questioner: It’d be great if it could be set in Kyushu…
+
Aoyama: Kyushu, sure! (laughs) Are you talking about Hakata dialect?
+
Questioner: I speak Saga dialect
+
Aoyama: Saga dialect?
+
Questioner: Yes, Saga dialect
+
Aoyama: Oh, is Saga dialect different from Hakata dialect?
+
Questioner: Yes, it’s a bit more rustic
+
Aoyama: Hahaha (laughs) okay I got it (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. There is a mystery tour in Tottori, and I would like to know if there are any tourist spots or buildings in Tottori that you would like to include in the mystery tour based on your memories
+
Aoyama: Eh~? where would that be? It’s been a long time since I moved to Tokyo (laughs). There’s a place nearby called Odaiba, and I’ve used that before, but… I’m not really sure. As for Tottori, maybe crab? Hmm… and pears, I guess… something like that (laughs). I’m not sure how I’d use them, though (laughs). But it’s all delicious stuff, that’s for sure (laughs)
+
+
+
Q. Who is the tallest character among all of them?
+
Aoyama: The tallest? Ah~Gin or Kyogoku
+
Questioner: I heard that Date is over 2 meters tall…
+
Aoyama: Ahh~! maybe Date!? (laughs) Date and Gin might be pretty close in height. Kyogoku might actually be a bit shorter. Anyway, those three are all really tall. It’s not Kazami, though (laughs). In my mind, Kazami is about the same height as Amuro (laughs). So, it’s Gin, Kyogoku, or Date. The top 3! (laughs)
