As evidence, Conan reveals that the tree had a mejiro's nest and that spider's web (a collectible that mejiro birds use to build their nests) was found on Hirai. To incriminate Kondo, Conan explains that Kondo's footprint from his mountaineering boots was found on the tree. Kondo confesses and reveals that Hirai was blackmailing him after he accidentally caused the death of a co-worker. The accident occurred as they were arguing with Hirai who was illegally selling plant wildlife to young girl tourists.
