Situation

On a Sunday morning, without a clear start of why, Yusuke Sakon has been calling his girlfriend Aki Kano while running to her apartment. Her apartment was closed, so he asks the building manager Hayashi for a spare key to her room. When they open the room, however, she is found dead inside. The police find a cup of coffee containing cyanide, suggesting the cause of death. They also find an investigation report made by Kogoro, so he is summoned to the scene.

Suicide?

Cause of death: Cyanide poisoning

Suspects: None known

The police rule her death as a suicide, even though no suicide note was left behind. Yet all other evidence points to a suicide, but is this really the truth?

Kogoro confirms that ten days ago, he was hired by a man claiming himself to be Yamada on behalf of Aki Kano to investigate Sakon if he had been cheating on her or not. The investigation shows Sakon is having an affair with Michiru Kuga. There are evidence supporting the theory that Kano was desperate upon reading the report, and committed suicide:

The security of Sobota Chemicals, where she worked, noticed her coming into the workplace during non-working hours.
Tadashi Otsubo, the head researcher of the Sobota Chemicals, reported that the missing amount of cyanide was more than enough to send a person to the afterlife.
The previous night, Kano went out to meet her best friend Hiroko Nishida for, apparently, her final goodbye.

At the same time, in her recent search history, there are notable words such as “stalker” and “accidental homicide”. Conan and Kogoro find this detail confusing, so they ask some of her acquaintances for extra information:

Otsubo mentions Kano was followed a few times by a man wearing sunglasses and a mask. He also believes there are no reason for her to commit suicide because of the publication of a research she and Otsubo have been doing for six year, which is going to happen on the next day.
Nishida does not answer Kogoro’s question about Kano’s stalker, as in her perspectives, the more important question is that her friend committed suicide because of Sakon’s infidelity. This is because Nishida knew her friend would try to break any of Sakon’s affairs instead of just saying farewell.

Suddenly, Conan reminds Kogoro to inform Kano’s death to the one named Yamada, only for the two to discover through a camera footage nearby that he was in fact, Sakon. So the two arrange a meet up with Megure, Chiba, Takagi, and Sakon to reveal the truth behind.
