Misaki-chan 164 Report post Posted August 26, 2011 I hate being good for that reason. :/ My parents always expect better. They take my grades from a few years back and wave it in my face, saying, "Look at your grades here! Think of your grades now! They've dropped a lot! It's not because the work is harder -- it's because you're not working enough!" @Misaki-chan: I just started. Though I frankly can't see how a girl would be attracted to a guy that quickly... How mean of your parents... D: I see.
IdentityUnknown 216 Report post Posted August 26, 2011 my mom does that too that's why you should be like roger in the diary of a wimpy kid kill any expectations and ur parents will be surprised at the tiniest little good thing you do Too late. :V I've been "a good kid" my entire life. @Misaki-chan: I know they mean well, but... *sighs* It's all about GPA and credits. They even took my mom's college report card and showed me how amazing her grades were back then.
AiSuigetsu 110 Report post Posted August 26, 2011 @IU: me too *sigh* ive always been an a student, however, my parents are pretty openminde, once i got an 87 on my SS test and my mom was just like try to do better next time
tengaku squared 291 Report post Posted August 26, 2011 Dull. Reading a book about a Korean girl who's spent her entire life trying to impress her parents. Being the best once and trying to maintain it is harder than never being the best and trying to get there, because you've set a standard for yourself and either you've got to go higher than it or keep at it. It's like a parent will praise a 6-year old child for doing something good, but expect it from an older, say, 12-year old child. Is that book called Wait For Me? Cause I read that book. Lia. 45 Report post Posted August 26, 2011 I was once there, and I am expected to continue to be there. My dad doesn't like second. :/ My parents were glad when my poem was published... but then I stopped writing and tried focusing on grades, on I never submitted anything else. My dad's first question: "What happened to the other 2 percent?" Is that book called Wait For Me? Cause I read that book. No. Is that one good? O______O Really? Woah.... Yup. She had one A-. One. @Lia: You should try more.

IdentityUnknown 216 Report post Posted August 26, 2011 I'm surprised I did... I suck at names... @kaichou, ONLY ONE?! O_____O Yes. Just one. Then my dad gave me a lecture recently about how my mom quit her job for us and how much they've sacrificed and how I'm likely to never get a job half as good as my mom's. How comforting. Here's something I said to my parents when they got mad at me for a 90 (note, it's in a spoiler for a reason): Fuck off, you bastards. You don't know what's going on my life, what used to go on in my life, and what will. You don't know anything about me, so just fuck off. Meh. There are better. What is the book, then? My mom looked like she wanted to slap me, but my dad (who sobered up) stopped her and said: Yeah, I don't know what's going on in your life, what was, and what will. I'm a Chinese father trying to raise a Korean child. But...*stands up* I'll tell you one thing. *thumps me in the chest* As long as you live in this house, you are my son. I will support you to the end. And this is the moment where I actually started to bond with my parents. *checks it out*

But I still hate lectures... >.< I sleep through them. :V My father doesn't lecture me at all. Before the talk, he'd simply looked at me, then look somewhere else. Nice~. :V The talk? They even took my mom's college report card and showed me how amazing her grades were back then. GPA... don't get me started about my GPA. It was crap last year... and my dad said that I'd better work harder this year. I thanked God that he wasn't holding a ruler or a cane. @IU: me too *sigh* ive always been an a student, however, my parents are pretty openminde, once i got an 87 on my SS test and my mom was just like try to do better next time 87 is good. 75 is bad. 87 will be a B+ or an A-. But 75 would definitely be a C. :/ I got a 98 on a test once. My dad's first question: "What happened to the other 2 percent?" Yup. She had one A-. One. @Lia: You should try more. That sounds like my dad too. I can never get those type of grades. I'm just not good enough. Strangely, my parents consider me to be their most academically-minded child, though I've only gotten close to 90% (for an exam) once in my life. They take my score (Stanford 10s) and my siblings' scores and yell at them (sister and little brother) about how my scores for the spelling section are okay compared to theirs: 'Look at your sister, she didn't miss any spelling words this year! And last year she only missed out one!! Out of the entire section!! And you guys- can't even get 80% for spelling! Don't you know how easy spelling is?! It's supposed to be an easy A!!' It's not like that for the other subjects... not to mention that I had no idea about the definitions of 'inches', 'yards', 'miles', 'quarts' and 'cups' for Math. Why can't the Stanford 10s just use the metric system?! Maybe when I have more free time. I have to get better grades for Humanities, Biology, Geometry and Chinese this year. It took a while for me to realize that was shame...on himself. You said your dad's Chinese? @Misaki-chan: I get lectured. Which usually involves a) my dad storming into my room and yelling at me; or my dad calling me out, sitting me down, and giving a (slightly) calmer discussion often involving my mom and lecturing me for at least 20 minutes. @Lia: For exams...I usually get Bs for Math and then score okay on the rest. My mom would never be satisfied unless I got a perfect score though. And the SATs... *winces* Good luck with that.

Really, I'm surprised that my dad even noticed I don't talk back to him. EDIT: Anyways, let's get off the subject about lectures and grades. How are you all?
