Was it ever said why Ran chose (or was forced to) live with Kogoro rather than with Eri? It would seem that (before episode 1) living with Eri would have been a much wiser decision because Korogo is... well... in the nicest terms I think think of... a lazy, stupid, drunkard.

In the timeline between their divorce and episode 1 it seems like Eri only became more popular as a lawyer whlie Kogoro became less popular as a detective. It would make more sense for Ran to live with Eri because she was, and probably still, more wealthy.

Did I miss something in the series or was this never fully explained?

Sweet as Ran, she may see her father need her care more than her mother. You'll see in some episodes that Kogoro and Conan must go out for dinner if Ran's not home due to Karate practice of something. On the contrary, Eri can take care of herself

And this may relate to mysterious reason Kogoro leave police and break up with Eri as seen in Chek's theory.

Or just when Gosho first write the story, he hasn't design Eri yet.

It's possible.

No i don't think it has been mentioned through out the series why is she livin' with her dad (as far as I've watched). But I think living with her mother would change the whole plot, as Conan won't be able to use Kogoro's body to unravel crimes and reach the B.O. using Eri will be more difficult as she is a lawyer not a detective.

Yes it would for sure... However, I was only refering to the time between the divorce and episode 1.

If it was never mentioned, then I guess I won't have to think about it anymore :P

Well they all lived in the Mouri Detective Agency already. Ran was only 6 or 7 years old when her parents started fighting a lot, so when Eri did leave, Ran couldn't have made the decision between her parents right then and there. But I think both her parents thought it was best for her to just stay at home so she wouldn't have to make any adjustments with her schools or something :3

But they're not divorced... :( They're married but living separately!

I agree with Aeyra. Eri knew what happen if she divorce, Ran wouldn't like them leave each other so she won't be hardworking and adept in karate. Eri realize family does mean to Ran a lot, as Ran loves them and they're afraid if she throw tantrum around. I think, in Ran's mind, she don't want to compare who is best and parents know her well, I guess Eri did hesitated when she saw Ran is a sweet girl who win a trophy and want to make them proud, and it could be the reason Eri don't want to have divorce and believe Ran will rub goodness into Kogoro when she's older.
