Shunichi Tsukuba (筑波峻一 Tsukuba Shun’ichi) is a character in the anime franchise Detective Conan.
Background
Shunichi Tsukuba was Tsukuba Corporation’s 3rd generation president until his death in the episode Pride of the Immortal Man. He was murdered by his corporation’s vice-president Gakuto Nogi, who held a grudge towards Tsukuba’s arrogant attitude even if that was a facet to hide his weak and “uncool” side. That is also the motive of Tsukuba planning to commit suicide, but he decided to disguise it as a murder to hide that side of him. Before Tsukuba could commit suicide, he was killed and his murdered was disguised as a suicide, the opposite of what Tsukuba wanted.
Personality
He is first shown as an arrogant man who had a little too much self-confidence. After his death, it seems that this behavior was a facet to hide his weak side, as he grew tired of managing the company for 5 years, after he inherited it from his father. He already had received threats from people who held a grudge, meaning that there are motives for Tsukuba’s murder.
Appearance
He is a corpulent man in his early 40s. He is shown as a stylish man, as mentioned by his secretary Hirose, who followed fashion trends and dressed like a “cool guy”. He had an extravagant hairstyle that matched his brunette hair.

Plot overview
He is first shown arriving at his office after being attacked, but stays calm and instead introduces his idea to his employees. After that, he is found dead in an alleyway by Kogoro and Conan who were passing by. He fell from a rooftop last night and died. 3 of his employees, including the VP, the managing director and the secretary arrive at the scene. Tsukuba’s aunt Sadako Machigawa also does, crying, as she was Tsukuba’s closest relative, who received a phone call from Tsukuba mentioning how he wanted to end it all. Now the police opens the possibility of suicide, but after seeing a criminal manifesto between the victim’s belongings they also open the possibility of murder. The police and Conan keep interrogating the 4 people. The evidence suggests both possibilities, as there’s evidence of Tsukuba wanting to kill himself, but also evidence that proves the murder possibility. Conan discovers the truth: even if Tsukuba was planning to kill himself, the real culprit is the VP Gakuto Nogi, who held a grudge towards Tsukuba’s arrogant facet and wanted to show the world how he was a loser, and carefully planned the murder using also Tsukuba’s plan. He is heavily scolded by Megure and Sadako, and finally arrested.
