Part of the trunk lock was fake and could be pulled out: Kasuga did not need this trick (for he had an original key) and Taruoka did not put the lock himself but asked Furuya to do so. After having killed Takeki who had seen him open the treasure chest, Furuya placed the corpse in it, but, as this trunk was always filled with fruits to the brim, he had to remove several apples to have enough space. In order to get rid of those apples, Furuya put them in a mixer and drunk the result. Conan pointed that further exams could detect the fruits, which would still be in the culprit's stomach, and Furuya surrendered.
After the resolution of the case, Conan asks [[Masumi Sera]] if they had already met together. She answers, with a mischievous smile, that it may have been mais that it was too early for her to answer.
